I recently bought a 2002 4Runner (around 260k miles) and noticed a lot of oil around the front skid plate / oil pan area. There’s also a little oil residue around the rear differential.
The truck runs great and I don’t see huge puddles on the ground yet, but the underside definitely looks oily.
I’m trying to figure out:
Is this likely valve cover gasket seepage?
Oil pan leak?
Front main seal?
Or just normal old Toyota seepage?
The rear diff also has a small amount of oil around it, but not dripping heavily.
Would you consider this normal for an older 4Runner or something I should fix ASAP?
Finally picked up this 4Runner after searching for a long time. Paid $3500 for it with 260k miles.
Overall the truck seems really well maintained and drives great. The only issue the previous owner mentioned is a small valve cover gasket oil leak/seep.
How serious is this on these 4Runners? Is it something I should fix immediately or can I monitor it for a while? Any advice appreciated.
Looking at a 1998 Mazda B2500 2.5 automatic with around 130k miles. Dealer says it has one code: P0302 (cylinder 2 misfire) and thinks it might just need a coil pack. Truck still apparently runs and drives good.
How serious would you guys consider this? Common simple issue on these trucks or possible red flag?
