adelaide fishing for larger fish?

i started fishing about a year ago and i feel like im really coming into my own, i understand things now and catch fish reliably, i have purchased 2 new rods one 6-12 kilos the other 4-8 and i wanna start targeting some larger fish than bream and redfin however i am under the magic age to start driving though so its not like i can go drive to the middle of nowhere and my parents arent keen on driving me. any spots i can catch some larger fish that arent too far away. nothing huge im thinking mulloway, cod or yellowbelly even. another question is can you catch natives in the murray still and how far up do i have to go to get a good chance at one. i purely fish lures and any help would be appreciated.

lower murray fishing questions

i want to try land based around morgan area or big bend, is it worth the drive to go further up towards renmark? is it better to go main river or the side creeks and lagoons? im trying to catch natives on lures i have a 4-8 kilo baitcaster with 20 pound braid and 30 leader is that a good setup? what are some of the best lures to throw for nice yellowbelly and small cod? is a boat without an electric motor good or do you need an electric? lots of questions but i didnt want to type out 5 different posts

i have a lovely rod that feels amazing but i only have a 2500 fx reel from shimano. ive been looking online for a nicer one second hand, im seeing lots of daiwa 2021 blacks, sustains, excelers, stradics, nascis and emereldas. is it even worth that much to upgrade in terms of price to how much better it feels to use? i will be using 8 pound braid and fluro leader.

in this lake i was flicking soft plastics for redfin around the places i could get to but around half of the lake is reeds, i got absolutely no bites and was about to give up. 3 lads then arrived and in 50 mins combined they caught 50 fish walking around the reeds. I have many lakes near me similar to this i have had no luck at im wondering if they are just really good (im a beginner) or if its just the fact they could get to the good spots. im wondering if theres anything i need to look out for like glass and any safety things and if anyone has even noticed any difference themselves by getting into the water.
