Imagine you're stuck in a cave, unable to move, knowing rescue won't arrive for 24 hours. What's your game plan?
Scary??
Scary??
Another post from my last IT company.. We Are Hiring. For a moment, Part of me was happy, thinking, "Things must finally be getting better." Then I opened the post. no full-time, just another internship program. This is the same company that once paid experienced employees ₹1.2 to ₹1.4 lakh a month. I spent over 6 years there before being laid off, so I have a fair idea of how the company management operates internally. and... this is not a story of one company...they have figured out that internships are one of the cheapest ways to get full-time output. Not every company does this, but enough of them do that it's worth knowing the warning signs before accepting an offer.
An internship should help you learn. It shouldn't make you feel like a disposable employee with a certificate at the end.
Here are some red flags I'd watch out for:
Mass hiring and mass firing is their philosophy
Check Glassdoor, AmbitionBox, Reddit, or LinkedIn. If every few months there's another wave of hiring followed by layoffs, ask yourself why. High turnover usually means something deeper is wrong. btw don't fall for great place to work certificate 😉
Salaries are regularly delayed
If employees are getting paid on the 10th, 15th, or even later every month, take it seriously. big red flag.. bcz delayed salary... high chances no interesting clients/projects. also Cash flow problems eventually affect everyone, including interns.
The company looks much bigger on LinkedIn than it actually is
Their LinkedIn says 200 employees. You walk into the office and only 18 people are there. Sometimes the company simply shrank but the profile was never updated to Impress clients or maintain repo. Either way, ask questions.
if HR says or claims "High chance you will get full-time offer"
Maybe. Mostly not in IT. If every intern hears exactly the same promise, high chances that it's a recruiting script rather than a real plan. Ask "how many interns from the last batch actually became full-time employees".
Nobody has time to mentor you
An internship without guidance is just cheap labor. If on LinkedIn company shows that they are big in number, but nobody's there to mentor you, bcz most of the talent they laid off. This is the harsh truth or harsh reality you can say that. If everyone is too busy to explain anything, you're unlikely to learn much.
Past employee reviews all mention the same problem
One angry review means very little. Twenty reviews mentioning the same issue usually mean something. Remember, Patterns matter. every one focusing on 5 star rating but on one should ignore 1star. After spending sufficient time in corporate life, you will realize that five-star rating was mostly given by those selected employees who were temporarily comfortable with the company or under pressure from peer, they gave five-star rating.
Everyone is afraid to speak
During the interview, notice whether employees look comfortable talking. If everyone keeps looking over their shoulder before answering simple questions, that's usually not a healthy culture.
Interviewers avoid simple questions
Try asking: Why did the last intern leave? ... How many interns became full-time employees?... Who will mentor me..? What does a successful internship look like?
If the answers are vague, that's information too not a a past experience.
Keeps posting the same internship every month/quarter
If the same role has been open continuously for months, ask why. Sometimes it's growth. Sometimes it's because nobody stays.
because after joining what you will get inside
Every project is "urgent"
If everything is treated as an emergency from your first day, expect chaos rather than learning. In this scenario, you won't get a chance to learn the system, learn how pipeline operates, learn how to optimize and take smart decisions.
The internship is mostly unpaid "for exposure"
Sad truth, Exposure doesn't pay rent. A good internship should at least provide meaningful mentorship, real experience, or fair compensation.
I'm not saying every company with one of these signs is bad. But if you notice four or five of them together, I'd think twice. Your first internship shapes how you see professional life. Choose a place that invests in teaching you, not just extracting work from you.
What red flags would you add before accepting an internship?
I mean which one hasn't??
Pixar has released some bangers!! My favorites are:
I mean
Coco. That moment when a wrinkled hand remembers a melody and the veil between worlds thins still leaves my inner child absolutely shattered.
Inside out at the end... when she came back to her parents and started crying, letting out all the pain she had been holding it. It's brutal, and so real. I haven't watched the 2nd movie yet. Don't know if they kept up the quality that was in the 1st one.
which one was is your personal favourite?
Wondering... if people know the rules or know the name of this game. Once upon a time this game was the addiction. I remember I used to get pissed off when I lose. If you know the rules, with whom would you like to play with?
