Quick question about application

Hey everyone, I know this might be a dumb question, but I couldn't find a clear answer anywhere on their site, so I figured I'd ask here.

Most universities I've looked at let you pick a second program choice, but I couldn't find it anywhere in my ULethbridge application portal. Does ULethbridge actually allow applicants to list a second program choice, or do they only take one?

Also, I had one more quick question: Competitive Admission Average: Could anyone share what the competitive admission average usually looks like for the Combined B.Sc./B.Ed. (Mathematics / Mathematics Education) program for the Fall 2027 intake?

Any insight or tips would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Upgrading during a gap year and ApplyAlberta

Hi, I’m a high school graduate taking a gap year and upgrading some of my high school courses, like English. If I’m currently taking the course, how am I supposed to enter it on ApplyAlberta? Do I put it as “In Progress,” or should I leave it off until I finish the course and get my final grade?

If anyone has gone through this while upgrading, I’d really appreciate some advice!

Education Elementary & Secondary competitive average?

Hi everyone!

I’m taking a gap year and planning to apply for the Bachelor of Education program at UAlberta (both Elementary and Secondary stream). For Secondary, my focus/majors will likely be Math and Art, or Physics.

I know the official website lists minimum requirements, but I've heard the actual competitive cutoff can fluctuate quite a bit depending on the major and stream.

My high school admission average right now is around 87%. For those who recently got accepted into B.Ed Elementary (or Secondary with Math/Art/Physics), could you share what average got you in? Do you think an 87% is competitive enough for B.Ed Elementary?

Any insights or advice would be super helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

B.Ed Elementary competitive average?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to apply to the Bachelor of Education - Elementary program at MRU.

I know the website lists the competitive average range around the mid-80s to 90s, but from what I’ve read online, it seems like the actual cutoff might be even higher.

For those who got accepted recently (or if you know someone who did), could you share what average (based on your top 2 Group A courses) got you in?

Any insights would be super helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is there a website/app for ELA feedback?

Is there a website, app, or community where I can get feedback on my ELA assignments? I’d be willing to pay if needed. Or is there a community where people share their writing and give each other feedback?

Thanks!

UCalgary Education admission average?

Hi, I’m going into Grade 12 next year and thinking about applying to Education at UCalgary. I know there’s a competitive average listed, but I’m curious what actual admitted students had.

What specialization/major did you apply for, and what was your average?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Has anyone else applied to Golden Hills Learning Academy North online for the 2026–2027 school year?

I’m taking a gap year and applied for Semester 1 about a month ago. My application was approved and I also received some emails from the school/advisors during the registration process.

However, I haven’t heard anything since then. I haven’t received any Moodle login information, teacher information, or anything about my courses yet.

I was wondering if anyone else who applied for 2026–2027 online has received their Moodle information or heard from their teacher yet? Or is it normal to not have received anything by now?

Can I rewrite a diploma exam after graduating if I think I did much worse than expected?

I just graduated Grade 12 and wrote the diploma exam. But due to some family issues and having multiple diplomas close together, I don’t think I performed anywhere near my usual level.

I’m considering taking a gap year anyway. If my final mark ends up being much lower than expected, can I rewrite the diploma in August (or next year) and have that mark replace the old diploma result?

Has anyone transferred from Bow Valley College ECED to UCalgary BEd?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice from students who may have gone through a similar pathway or have experience with transferring from Bow Valley College to the U of C.

I’m currently planning to take the Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) Diploma at Bow Valley College. My goal is to eventually apply to the University of Calgary Bachelor of Education program, specifically either:

Early Childhood Education – 4-Year Community-Based (K–12) or Early Childhood Education – 4-Year On-Campus (Elementary)

What I’m trying to understand is not so much whether my credits will transfer, but whether completing the ECED diploma at Bow Valley College is actually a valid pathway to be considered for admission into the UCalgary BEd program.

In other words, if I complete the full diploma and achieve a strong GPA, would I still be considered a competitive applicant for the BEd transfer route, even if most or all of the credits do not transfer directly toward the degree?

If anyone has taken a similar route or has insight into this, I would really appreciate your experience.

Thank you!

First year CS schedule advice

Hi, I’m a first-year CS student. Before I finalize my enrollment tomorrow I wanted to quickly ask for some feedback on my schedule.

I basically built it based on what looked good to me, without too much planning in mind

Does this look okay for first year CS?

Am I missing any required courses?

Is there anything important I should add or change?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Can native speakers take their own language courses?

Hi, I'm scheduling for my first year of CS, and I'm Korean.

I’m thinking of taking a Korean course as an elective since it would likely be an easy GPA booster for me, but I’m not sure if native speakers are allowed to take it.

Would Korean be a good idea for the first-year CS workload, or should I pick something else?

Any advice?

First-year CS Fall term schedule

Hi everyone,

I’m currently planning my first-year Fall term schedule for CS and based on my research, I’m considering taking:

  • CMPUT 174
  • MATH 144
  • MATH 125

Is this a typical course combination for first-year CS students?

Are any of these courses not actually necessary in Fall term, or can be delayed?

Since I’m thinking of taking 5 courses per semester, what are the usual remaining 2 courses CS students take in first year?

Any advice would really help.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, I could use some advice.

I got waitlisted for engineering but accepted into Computer Science.

I took high school CS, but it was mostly auto-graded assignments, and I did not really put an effort on this course, so I don’t feel like I have a strong understanding of programming fundamentals.

My main questions are:

Does first-year CS assume you already know coding basics, or is it taught from scratch?

How hard is first-year CS in general?

Would it be a realistic or worthwhile idea to try transferring into engineering later, or is that usually very difficult?

Any advice would be appreciated.
