My first impressions of Ornette Coleman "Free Jazz"

Hello fellow jazz lovers!

I love jazz but my way to jazz was quite crooked.

When I was a teenager - I was a metalhead.

But metal .. you always try to find something heavier and more heavier and soon discover that heavy metal is not heavy enough for you.

I was sixteen when I understood that quest for "heavier than heavy metal" goes in two paths:
- more heavier in sound: post-punk, industrial, modern classics ((Strawinsky, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Bartok(!), Ligetti) and surprisingly JAZZ could be heavier then heavy metal.. I can add to this folk music of Tuwa, Altai, Kyrgyzs and Kazakhs to list
- more heavier in conception: again modern classics, again post-industrial - could be heavier even if it's played with single finger on piano

I did not listen metal for maybe 20 (?) years. Then I discovered Messhugah and I understood that I was I wrong in "Metal is stupid for stupid teenagers"

Recently I discovered that alt-metallers "Imperial Triumphant" called Ornette Coleman as an inspiration for them

Sorry for long introduction, now comes:

## My impressions of "Free Jazz"

I turned album on, first impression "WTF but anyway let's try"

Then I start work (I'm a programmer) , music is playing.

After 3-4 minutes I start to feel that "It's a good thing that plays"
But .. I turn my attention to music and my impression: "it's a shit.. but let's continue"
Again: after 3-4 minutes I'm starting to feel that it maybe the best music I heard in my life
I turn my attention: "what's the shit is that??"

And this cycle goes several times.
And the next day I put "Free Jazz" again 😄

On third day: I understood that there are 2(!) drummers and 2(!) bassists.
And those 4 people are doing something extraordinary!

And things that I still dislike (just have not acquired taste) - are trumpets and all that on higher register

Right now: I still did not acquire taste for Coleman. But I'm sure that I will

What I love in Expanse series is fashion.

And most intriguing WTF is Sadavir Erringwright wearing

And his son wearing something similar.

What is that?

Some kind of jacket but without colllar

Some kind of shirt without collar

Romance with Beatrice in New Londo

I recently saw messages that "farming for slabs is impossible", that "New Londo Ruins is not fun", etc

I don't understand that - I think New Londo is one of the funniest location in DS1.

And that location has a romantic story - let me explain that.

What do you need

  1. Transient Curse (that's the MUST)
  2. 10 Humanities + Covetuous Silver Serpent Ring (not the MUST but SHOULD)
  3. No 4 Kings yet (not the MUST but you loose a lot of fun if you already killed them)

How that goes. Part I - "boy meets girl"

You run from Firelink Shrine, activate Transient Curse, kill 2 Ghosts, then jump below on the right side (do not run up stairs)

Here you kill first Darkwraith, go up stairs, kill another 2 Darkwraithes and 3-4 Ghosts (I don't remember)

Then you run to a place where you can summon Beatrice.

And here all the fun begins :)))

Part II. "Romance with Beatrice"

You go through New Londo with Beatrice.

Beatrice cannot kill ghosts - she's not cursed. So it's your role to protect her.

But she detects ghosts and excellently kills Darkwraithes.

Poor Darkwraithes can't even understand what to do: they're either attacking you and get a spear from Beatrice or they attacking Beatrice and get backstub from you.

Part III. "Beatrice must die" - the sad part

The most sad thing Beatrice must die or it's will be impossible for you to return.

You can't take her to other locations. You can't even quit game while she's around you (!!!)

So every time it makes me a little bit more hollow when I need to directly or indirectly kill her ( I use lift usually)

Beauty of all this

New Londo is the location for farming chunks and slabs.

Buuuuut ... it has that kind of romantic story inside.

I love Dark Souls!!!

My first FAITH run. What I'm doing wrong?

I thought that I don't have Cast Light!!!

That's why I did not save Rhea!!!

I feel soooo F*N STUPID!!!

Thank you all!!

Hi fellow undeads!

I decided to try play Faith/Dex build.

Took Cleric, decided not to buy miracles from Petrus because I think his prices to high.

Got Faith to 25 to get Lighting Spear.

For Sorceries I decided to not use them and not level up Intelligence till I went to Anor Londo and I could not get Ring of Fog (because I did not get Skull Lantern idk why)

All my equipment +14 or + 15.

And then I found that I almost never use Talisman and Miracles.

Great Scythe and Pyromance, sometimes bow.

I have feeling that I'm doing something wrong.

Buuuut ... yesterday I came to O&S, killed them on first try.

What I'm doing wrong? How to make Faith to work for me?

I'll be grateful for any suggestion

Question about "The Rational Life" TV Series. How is it accurate? Or is it pure fantasy?

Hi!

I only recently started watching Chinese tv series. (Actually I quite like them)

I liked "The Rational Life" ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14376958/ ), I think I became fan of Qin Lan 😄

But I have suspicions:
- how much accurate it's in description of real life in China?
- or is it a pure fantasy, like American series?

I'm not asking about romantic relationships (everything possible) but more about:
- work relations
- family - relations with mothers and fathers, wife who don't want children and finally husband and parents are accepting it
- life in Shanghai overall

Sorry if I can't formulate more specific questions.

Thank you!

An idea for DS1 mod. Change spell Undead Rapport to create somekind of Necromancer Build. Asking for criticism

Preface

I know nothing about mods for DS1. Never installed a one (I'm still a nube in DS1)

I did some modding in Quake 1, Down of War 1, I'm a programmer by profession

Undead Rapport

Interesting pyromancy is Undead Rapport.

But:

  • 30 seconds - so so
  • limited list of enemies
  • it comes too late
  • and why it's a pyromancy?? It's more suitable for clerics than for pyromancers

So it gives some fun but you can't make it as a main spell for a build

Idea

A. Make it available from FireLink B. Make it a wonder not pyromancy C. Make it scaleable - the more Faith you have the more enemies you can enchant and duration scales too D. Make it possible to enchant every kind of enemy, some enemies easier some harder and some impossible

With such modification it could be possible to make it a main spell and run in an army of enemies

I think it should be fun.

What do you think, fellow undeads?
