Diagnosis in 5 year old boy

Hi everyone,

My 5 year old son was diagnosed with chiari malformation type 1 today while at the ER getting a CT scan after a concussion. I have never heard of this in my entire life. What do I do? Where do I start? Everything I am reading is so overwhelming.

The doctor told me most people who have type 1 go their entire life without knowing or having any symptoms and it is usually only caught on scans for other issues.

Signed,

A very worried mom

Turtle's Outdoor Set Up

My map turtle has a 300 gallon indoor stock tank but I really wanted to move her outdoors for the summer. I had the idea of turning a food grade IBC tote into an above ground pond. I found a food grade $10 300 gallon IBC tote with metal cage on marketplace. We added sand for substrate, stocked it with mollies, platys, guppies, duckweed (her favorite!) and water iris. My husband made a really nice basking deck for her.

She absolutely loves being outside and this is a great way to upgrade your turtle's enclosure on a budget if need be. We plan on planting native vining plants around the metal cage to make it look nicer.

These soft eggs are driving me crazy!!!

I brought home my first flock of chickens almost a month ago. In this flock there are two that are driving me bonkers.

Issue 1: this chicken who didn't lay an egg for a couple weeks which I attributed to stress from the move, then has been laying a soft egg every day for the last week! She is between 1 and 2 years old. The person I got my flock from did not have any issues with her laying. I have been feeding Nutrena NatureWise Layer 17% Protein Crumble Chicken Feed (recently switched to all flock as I added several pullets to my flock), they have multiple sources of fresh water a day, I have a large dish of grit and a large dish or crushed oyster shells accessible at all times. They free range from sun up to sun down. She has a great appetite, forages all over my property, is a very busy little bird. But she lays these soft eggs that literally feel like a balloon and pop in the nest box which is a disgusting mess to clean up. She has laid 5 soft eggs in a row. I have no idea what I am doing wrong or what I need to do to fix this issue but I am sick of cleaning busted egg yolks and egg whites out of the nest box.

Issue 2: I have a white leghorn also between 1 and 2 years old that came from the same flock, she hasn't laid a single egg! No hidden nest in my yard, I have cameras all over and am outside most of the time with my kids. All my other hens have started laying. Is this going to take more time?

The white leghorn not laying is not a huge deal and I still like her, just moreso curious as to why she has not laid. The gray hen making a mess out of my nest box with these runny eggs is really my problem. Hoping for any insight from more experienced chicken tenders.

ETA: We do not have a rooster in case that is relevant and no other hen is having issues with their egg shells.
