Star Trek has been boldly going where few sci-fi franchises have since 1966. And Star Trek comics have been in the bridge for almost as long.
Now, for the storied franchise’s 60th anniversary, IDW is putting together a comic special with timeline and galaxy-spanning stories that will feature the Trek-writing debut of comics author Brian Michael Bendis; a story by David Gerrold, one of the last living writers who worked on The Original Series and created the iconic Tribbles; and one by Star Trek: Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan
Hello!
I had the chance to see the Ribbon Warrior short and all I can say is…wow. It was simply amazing – one in line with the manga and distinct from the main GuP stuff.
I would love to see the series adapted into a solid anime series after Das Finale, but that seems to depend on its reception in Japan among Japanese fans of the franchise. Does anybody have an idea how the short was received by folks and execs?
Thanks!
In a recent interview with Monopoly Events, William Shatner mentioned that a major Star Trek event is planned for Saturday night in San Diego.
“There’s a meeting in San Diego at a big convention in San Diego, where a lot of people go. A lot of programs go to promote themselves, and on a Saturday night there’s a big Star Trek event. Bigger than… I mean all the shows. And they’ve invited me. And I can’t go, because I’m busy. And it’s too bad, and I’m sorry about that,” he said in the interview.
Hello!
As we all know, a big part of conventions is art commissioning, whether that is from a hobbyist with a booth, a rising star in the field, or even a skilled veteran with oodles of pictures in their portfolio. I’m personally getting into the hobby and having fun with it as I add pieces to my personal collection.
My curiosity is this: For those who are already knee-deep in this facet of con culture, what do you usually commission? For those who craft commissions, what are the most useful drawings for your portfolio for future work/ambitions?
Thank you very much!

As we attendees know, cosplay was heavily encouraged by the organizers to help liven up the atmosphere. I participated as well because it is frankly fun to do so – a chance to don another identity and be a part of the spectacle.
While some were simpler, others went all out in the best ways possible. Were there any that stuck out to you?
When I went this past Saturday, I saw a fantastic duo in the garb of Baroque Works agents, Miss Valentine and Mr. 5 from One Piece. It’s like they jumped out from the manga pages and into the real world. Totally top notch!
In general, the One Piece fans came out guns blazing when it came to top notch costumes, which ranged from the more popular Straw Hat crew to the deep-in-the-weeds manga stuff like World Nobles with their bulbous helmets and smug expressions.
Heck! I sometimes wished I was a bigger fan of the franchise due to the quality of costumes and zeal from the fandom I saw at the festivities. Good work overall!
