What's the deal with D&G The One?

There's the EDT vs. EDP, the new bottles vs. old ones; are any of them worth getting or do the complaints about longevity apply to all variations?

Advise on Bujairami

I have a short list of Bujairami frags that I'm interested in, for those familiar these are there any here I should avoid? Any that are exceptional? Thanks in advance.

My Collection of Regret

https://preview.redd.it/qwvlgk7xi6fh1.jpg?width=2856&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ebc45ef596dd2f3b45ac0997d00dec0c697fed6

Until 3 months ago, I had JPG Le Male and Burberry Touch and I was happy. Then I smelled Imagination, which launched me down a rabbit hole that lead to this.

My lesson so far is that is that the pursuit of dupes mostly ends in disappointment and it's better to just save for the ones you really want than spend half but never use it. There's a bunch here I blind bought or bought impulsively and regret.

Happy to answer questions about any you're curious about.

I Lack Vocabulary

I've noticed lately that I'm gravitating toward scents that I would call "natural". Like they smell like raw essential oils. Specific fragrances are:
- Most of the Aesop frags
- Jo Malone Grapevine and Cedar
- Le Labo The Noir 29 (Le Labo in general)

My question is what I'm picking up inherent to certain houses, ingredients or just certain notes? I'm not sure how to describe what I'm looking for so I can find more frags in this lane.

White Canadians

When I mention that I’m Canadian when I’m talking to a black American, they almost seem relieved. Like me being Canadian positively shifts their perception of me. I’ve noticed this on a few occasions. White Americans don’t seem to give a shit or if anything I get this gist that they think I’m… inconsequential.

Am I wrong or do black Americans see white Canadians different from white Americans?

Jean Lowe - Fantasme

I've had this for a few weeks now and thought I'd share my thoughts as someone who owns the OG and has experience with other Imagination dupes.

I bought it for $38.99 CAD.

Presentation: Like the entire Jean Lowe line, they try to emulate Louis Vuitton with every component. From the box, the can (which has a soft foamy bottom like LV), the bottle which also has a pretty strong magnetic cap. The bottle is heavy. There's more than a half inch of glass on the bottom alone.

Scent Profile: They really nailed the scent profile of the OG on this one. Citrus, soap, soft neroli and black tea. Just like the OG and Imaginary. Fantasme is more linear however. To me, the OG and Montagne open with citrus and soap that gradually give way to a projection of black tea and you pick up the neroli closer to skin. Fantasme presents all 4 elements up front.

It's better than Aqua Dubai which leans into the lemon and soap but the neroli and tea are non-existent. It's also better than Essence de Blanc which has a very unpleasant pepper/spice base note.

I have yet to try Hectic or Kobra so I won't comment on those.

Projection and Longevity: Like the OG I do find the need to overspray to get the performance I want. I think 4-5 hours of mild projection with an on skin scent for up to 8 hours. I haven't received compliments on this one where as with the OG I get them routinely. I also wouldn't say that tea note projects as much as the OG or Imaginary.

Personal Notes: Overall, I really like it. I find myself working from home smelling the bottle and playing with the cap. I take it to the office and the gym and because of the price point I'm not afraid to use and abuse it. It's not going to out perform the OG but for 10% of the price you won't care.

I would also say this is a great option for Canadians specifically. Montagne Imaginary costs $50 USD. After conversion, shipping and tariffs/duties it ended up costing me $130CAD. I would imagine ;) that ALT would be the same.

Jean Lowe was late to the Imagination party because they wanted to get it right.

Explain a Busta Rhymes quote

I heard Busta Rhymes say about Eminem:

“I didn’t know he was white. I was listening to the shit he was saying, and I’m like, ‘What Black dude would say some of this shit?’”

My question is why wouldn’t a black person say those things?

Tea Based Fragrances

Hi all,

A little up front, I've always been a fan of clean, fresh fragrances. I wore Le Male and Burberry Touch for years as my daily drivers. I liked the powdery soapy kind of smells. About a month ago I smelled LV Imagination for the first time. As much as I tried to resist, I bought it. Now I can't even look at JPG or Touch. Imagination has completely shifted what I thought what clean and fresh could be. The issue is I don't want to wear Imagination to work, so I need a new daily driver but I seem to hate everything.

Is there anything out there that just smells like tea? Like how Imagination smells on the dry down? I've read that I might like Bvlgari Pour Homme EDP but can't find much else.

I've tried and did not like (it's crazy how many of these smell the same):

  • Bleu de Chanel
  • Creed Island Mountain Water
  • Creed Silver Mountain Water
  • Dior Sauvage
  • Chanel Allure Homme Sport
  • Mont Blanc Explorer
  • Mont Blanc Legend Spirit
  • Nishane Wulong Cha
  • Nishane Wulong Cha X
  • JPG Le beau
  • JPG Narcisse
  • L'eau D'issey Pour Homme
  • Sel L'eau D'issey Pour Homme
  • Prada l’homme
  • Prada Paradigme
  • Replica Sailing Day
  • Replica Lazy Sunday Morning
  • Replica Beach Walk
  • Spice Bomb
  • Spice Bomb Metallic Musk
  • Versace Eros
  • Versace Dylan Blue
  • Versace Fraiche
  • Versace Fraiche Intense
  • Versace Pour Homme
  • Terre’ Hermes
  • Yves Saint Laurent Myself
  • Zara Sun Rise on the Red Dunes

Hi all,

My all time fave is JPG Le Male but I'm getting tired of it. I tend to gravitate toward the clean, soapy, watery type scents like the Nautica OG, Par Kenzo, Imagination, Clean Warm Cotton, BB Touch.

I like the ones that suggest clean laundry or just got out of the shower rather than a typical cologne.

Are there any others I should look into?
