Looking for advice on 2 ring designs

Hi, everyone

I am looking for advice on two engagement ring designs, as I am a complete novice. I am inclined at two concepts given by a vendor on nature-inspired designs, but with some custom adjustments. Images added are altered by AI to give as best visualization as possible. My main concerns here are:

  1. Overall design. My partner and I love the nature theme. But I am not sure about the comfort and practicality of it - especially in her ring, which is more intricate (and also seems limited on resizing (?)). As for "my" ring, I am unsure about the size. It seems that, if the gemstone is 5mm or below, it would be too small. But if it is 6mm or above, it seems that it would make the ring/band too wide, which might make it worth reconsidering the design.

  2. We also have a preference for lab grown gemstones. However, I am not sure if the colours and cuts above are possible to be obtained with lab grown sapphires? Tried took for alternatives, but closest I got would be for the second ring to use a dichroic moissanite. And unsure if the pear cuts / emerald cuts are suitable for the gems.

  3. On a side note, it seems that certain jewellers have (quite a high) markup for gemstones, and sometimes even offer only commercial cuts for the desired colours. It makes me think if it wouldn't be worth to buy directly the gemstone from a gemstone high-precision cutter, and then ask for jewellers open to make a ring around the jewel (although I am afraid the "custom request".might eat up any savings from the gemstone purchase).

Any feedback and criticism would be very welcome. Thank you in advance!

Pricing between gemstone vendors Vs jewellers?

Hi all, newbie on gemstones here just looking to learn more about this field. I had a question regarding pricing.

I am inquiring a few european Jewellers about pricing of their engagement rings, but using synthetic orange sapphires (8x6mm, pear shape, precision cut, ~ 1.2ct) instead of a natural one. And I've been quite surprised by the quoted prices. I've recently received a quote for €700-€900 for the gemstone alone (for comparison, they charge €1,250 for the natural orange sapphires).

I understand that a lot of variables are at stake for pricing of a lab gemstone (from growth method, cut, color, to jeweller's import and trade costs and, of course, markup), and I plan to ask to understand better the pricing. But when comparing to prices of other orange sapphires from the Vendors List in this subreddit and to some posts, it still seems like a crazy difference in price. So, before I do so, I wanted to know:

Are there any factors that can justify such a big difference in pricing between a gemstone vendor and a jeweler vendor? Or is it actually a reasonable price for (assuming a) high quality lab grown sapphire? How can one evaluate if pricing of a specific gemstone of a specific color is actually reasonable, and not a rip-off?

Can someone explain what is going on in r/nuclearpower?

Had a post showing up on my homepage about how renewables are accelerating and being great. OP was defending how great Germany decarbonisation strategy is, and making the traditional comments about how unnecessary nuclear is (on a nuclear subreddit), because of how cheap renewables and storage and hydrogen are, etc etc.

I made the comment above. Minutes later, I got *permanently* banned by "Misinformation". I heard rumors about how bad that subReddit is moderated, but this is quite something.

Anyone knows what's going on there?
