Mods, DO NOT REMOVE THIS. I'm not talking about rumors. One of Capcoms producers recently came out and confirmed that the remake timeline will catch up with the games eventually.
Now, onto the rant. You can prefer the non RE Engine games to the RE engine games that's fine. But I think the RE Engine games greatest strength is consistently. Think about it.
People like to clown on Capcom for often retconning Resident Evil. But when have the RE Engine games ever retconned other RE Engine games? Besides changing Chris's face and voice from RE7 to RE8 they really haven't. His personality is pretty consistent as well.
A series evolving is a good thing, but you risk evolving it too much that it seems too different between titles. Resident Evil 2 original and Resident Evil 4 original are both masterpieces. No doubt about it. But it's no secret they feel like entirely different franchises. Different tone. Different style of gameplay. Different graphics. Even Leon feels like 2 separate characters in both despite their actors both doing a phenomenal job!
But look at Resident Evil 2 Remake compared to Resident Evil 4 Remake. The gameplay and camera are closer to each other so it feels like the same series. The tone of RE4 is changed in RE4 Remake to match RE2 better. The graphics look like there's less of a leap and best of all Leon feels like the exact same character. You guys can shit on Capcom using Leon a lot all you want. But he has a consistent arc from 2 Remake to 4 Remake to 9. Not just because it's the same actor and character model. But because his entire arc is about his hero complex and survivors guilt. He joined the R.P.D. to save people, he came to Raccoon City to save people, yet he didn't save a single person that night. Let's face it. It was mainly Claire who saved Sherry. Jill saved Carlos. Leon saved no one. Ada lived, but not because of Leon. This leads Resident Evil 4 Remake to begin with the line "This time, it has to be different" and the whole game is about him righting the wrongs of the Racoon City Incident and trying to finally save someone. He faces the same problems where he's forced to let the 2 cops, Luis, Mike and arguably even Krauser die. Even though Krauser is arguably different as Leon had to put him down. But you get what I mean. Then he finally saved someone and it's a bright ending for him. Then 9 continues with this. Leon has to go back to the place where all of his pain began. People constantly ask why they used Leon instead of Jill and as I said before it's because Leon is the only one who didn't save anyone. Just like how Grace couldn't save her mother or Emily. That's what makes him the perfect co-protagonist with Grace. He has to go back and confront where his life changed in Raccoon City and the R.P.D. just like how Grace did at the Wrenwood Hotel.
I know I've probably said the word "consistency" like a billion times in this post. And I'm sorry. But I truly do think this the RE Engine games strength. Even little things like RE9 acknowledging Spencer being saved by Miranda or RE2/RE3/Probably RE:V removing the "We have to stop Umbrella!" Lines because with the benefit of hindsight they seem really silly since they never actually stop Umbrella and the stock market did it for them. Changing Leons line in RE2 Remake to "Whatever happens next we'll be ready for" is just perfect.
But what the RE engine games did for Leon is just the beginning! I'm excited to see them give Chris, Jill and Claire the same treatment!

How it feels to own every Silent Hill game physically except for Short Message because i didn't order the Deluxe Edition in time and now I can't even buy it from overpriced eBay scalpers because the scalpers who were selling it got removed by eBay for some reason
Not defending scalpers, I'm just saying. It's the only way I'd be able to still get the game and now I can't because either all of the scalpers had theirs bought or they were reported and taken down.
