Breakthrough moment with a hater
For years, my best friend has taken the mickey out of me for my love of anything (I say within reason) to do with lord of the rings. It was my obsession growing up.
I read the books, watched the movies a million times, collected the middle earth game from games workshop, built uruk-hair armour from scratch etc etc. I'm in my late 30s and have also started collecting the old toybiz figurines.
Anyway, for years, he's always trolled me about it and he finally sat down to watch the fellowship. The next day, I watched the two towers with him, and at the start of the movie, he's like "these movies are cool, I guess, but I don't get why you love lotr so much". Imagine my delight when he starts asking lore questions and getting really into my explanations about the world not explained in the movie (like origins and stuff).
Today was just the ultimate. We were out eating, and he said he can't wait to get back home so he can watch the 3rd.
Truly delightful. Worth the years of torment.
Had to share this great news with someone.
Thank you for reading my essay.
