2018 Q5 - Shop just informed me that the rear differential needs to be worked on
I took our 2018 (about 68K miles) in for an oil change and I asked told them that I had a concern about chatter on turns at parking lot speeds. Initially they said that I might need a differential fluid flush but they just called me to let me know that the rear diff needs to be repaired and they are quoting 300 dollars. I initially clenched, but the quote for the work isn't horrible. Still, I told them that I'd bring the car back for the work because I need to space out the expense. I don't plan on waiting long to have the work done, but my concern is if waiting potentially is putting strain on other things. Can anyone give me some perspective? The car doesn't get driven a ton to commute daily, it runs to the grocery store maybe three or more times a week and does the school run mostly. We are talking about maybe 100 miles a week? Am I making a mistake to wait a month to do this repair?
EDIT: I got some clarity from them last night when I picked up the car. The 300 dollar service is just a flush and change of fluid on the rear diff. They seem pretty confident from previous experience that this will likely resolve the issue, they say they've seen it before. They also don't recommend I change the fluid on the front or center, their opinion is that it'd be a waste of money at this point.
EDIT part deux: I realized that I had the mileage a bit wrong, the car actually has 74K miles on it. It's not a ton of difference from 68K, but it's worth pointing out that I am officially over 70.
