2012 Audi Q5 2.0T - Crank/No Start after HPFP & PCV Replacement. Stumbles to 500 RPM, Raw Gas Smell.

Recent Work Done:
• Replaced High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP)
• Replaced PCV Valve
Current Symptoms:
• Car cranks perfectly and evenly (around
220 RPM).
• Occasionally kicks/stumbles up to ~500
RPM if I feather or floor the gas pedal while cranking, but dies the exact second I release the key or lift my foot.
• There is a strong smell of raw gasoline immediately after a cranking attempt.
• Large oil puddle observed under the front passenger bumper area.
OBDeleven Live Data Captured While
Cranking:
• Fault Codes: NO timing or camshaft correlation codes (No P0016).
• Misfires: Staggering counts. Cylinder 2 has 58,417 misfires. Cylinder 4 has 23,735, Cylinder 3 has 3,279.
• Fuel Pressure: High fuel pressure actual matches specified perfectly. Primed at 50 bar, climbs up to 97.5 bar (9750 kPa) during a heavy crank.
• Synchronization: Drops from EPM_MODE_WAIT to EPM_MODE_VERIFY right when it tries to catch, then stalls out.
• Long-Term Fuel Trim was at +4.69% right before the no-start condition.
What I've Tried:
• Unplugging the MAF sensor to force fail-safe mode results in the same symptom (stumbles to 500 RPM and dies).

I'm suspecting either a catastrophic downstream air breach (popped intercooler charge pipe releasing pooled oil onto the bumper), or a stuck-open fuel injector on Cylinder 2 completely drowning the spark plug.
Any Audi/VW master techs recognize this exact behavioral pattern? Appreciate any guidance on what to pull or test next.

2017 Audi Q5 2.0T Premium Plus (Buying Advice)

Hi everyone, looking for some advice on a potential car purchase. I am currently looking at a private party sale for a single-owner 2017 Audi Q5 with 117,000 miles.

The Vehicle Details:

  • Price: Asking $9,500 (seller is very open to negotiation).
  • History: Clean service history, Carfax Homegrown status. The seller had an Audi dealership contract up to 100k miles and followed the recommended 10k-mile service intervals.
  • Maintenance: They also did mid-interval synthetic oil changes every 5k–7k miles, which matches the Carfax entries.
  • Usage: Daily driver with occasional road trips. Always driven in economy mode (not sport), though it has been driven in a quite hilly area of the PNW.
  • Condition: It drives really nicely. The seller is very open to a PPI at a garage of my choice and understands that it's an older vehicle that could have unknown issues.

The Main Carfax Note: One item stood out: "Engine timing/front cover gasket replaced." The owner explained that he noticed the oil levels falling faster than expected, so the dealership recommended this $4,000 repair. They haven't seen any issues since.

I've seen plenty of comments online characterizing these vehicles as potential money pits at this stage of their life, so I want to get the community's take.

What I need advice on:

  • PPI Checklist: We are absolutely getting a PPI done. What specific Audi-specific components or hidden problem areas should I explicitly ask the mechanic to look at?
  • Next 30k Miles: What major components are likely going to need replacement between 117k and 150k miles?
  • Longevity vs. Risk: If I maintain this vehicle just as well as the previous owner, can I realistically expect to get another 80,000 to 100,000 miles out of it? Or should I avoid this car outright due to common issues that pop up past 150k miles?
  • The Alternative: Our other option is a single-owner, Carfax Homegrown 2017 Subaru Impreza with 80k miles. The seller is asking $14,300, but I think they will negotiate down to $13,000.

Would you keep a 2022 Q5 after warranty?

Have a 2022 Q5 with 22k miles. So far I had to deal with the EVAP Leak Detection Pump and now doing the TSF for the "Audi Rumble" issue. They did the fluid change and told me to drive it for a minimum of 310 miles in Dynamic drive select mode. After that point if the vehicle still exhibits symptoms they said they will replace the AWD clutch unit.

My warranty ends next year, I cant say that this vehicle makes me feel very confident. So would you keep yours after warranty or get rid of it?

Guys, I need to know, has anyone bought a B10 Q5 and had no problems?

I'm trying to gauge how widespread the software issues are. Because from looking at this sub reddit and other forums it seems like every single B10 car is a lemon. I'm hoping this isn't the case?

B10 Continued Software Glitches

It would be great if there were a single thread dedicated to the B10 software issues that seem to plague this platform.

In my case, I took delivery of my A5 in November. In April, the software was updated to KD2 to address the “Christmas tree” of warning messages and the loss of air conditioning. Less than 2 months later, I’m still getting random error messages, and Apple CarPlay is now unstable.

To make matters worse, the pre sense system randomly activated while I was driving causing hard braking and retracting the seat belt. It was quite startling. All of this in just 6 months of ownership and only 5,000 miles.

I brought the car back to the dealership, and this was their response:
“Verified concern, scanned vehicle and found multiple sporadic faults. Per TSB 2081477/2, this is a pending service solution and Audi is working on a service fix. The update is expected to release in Q3 2026. No concern with actual driving of vehicle. Audi will have a full solution for the current software glitches occurring. Audi will release the fix to dealers and to owners. Vehicle software is on its current firmware. Cleared any underlying faults.”

There was a similar statement regarding the CarPlay issues. However, for the pre sense activation, the technician stated that they could not replicate the concern and that the system is “working as intended.” I guess random activation is considered intended.

Lastly, the speedometer consistently reads about 2 mph faster than both GPS and the roadside speed display signs.

The dealership’s own statements acknowledge that there is currently no fix for these software issues. We’re expected to ignore repeated safety warnings and continue driving the vehicle. I’ve been a longtime Audi customer and I’m deeply disappointed by the significant decline in quality control. Great ride but the software problems seriously detract.

It doesn’t seem right that customers who paid full price are effectively serving as beta testers. In my opinion, owners should be compensated for the time, inconvenience, repeated service visits, and inevitabley greater loss of resale value than normal.

Has anyone had success obtaining compensation from Audi or pursuing another form of recourse? I’m in New York, where the lemon law requires 4 repair attempts for the same defect within the first 2 years or 18,000 miles. I’m already halfway there on the number of repair attempts.

Is this normal

Hello,

I have 2015 Audi q3 and it’s the top model. I do lots of highway driving along with some city as well but like 65% is highway. I filled up this tank exactly a week ago and it read 410 miles, now it’s at 130 and drove it 264 miles. Does this sound right? Gas is expensive rn and it’s draining me a bit. I know these older models their gas consumption isn’t the greatest but I want your guys opinions, thanks, also do speeds from like 70 and above if that matters.

Repairs on 2017 Q5 with 105k Miles

Hi everyone,

I bought a Q5 in feb of 2025 for all in $13k, 2017 Q5 Premium Plus 2.0L engine with 95K miles at time of sale.

The deal was done pretty late, and I was not able to take it to a mechanic to get the car inspected, but the dealership was reputable so I went through with it.

I took the car in for a full inspection and oil change a year later, and these were the reported issues(the car was around 102K+ miles at this point).

-Drive Belt Replacement
-Cam Girdle/Shaft Leak
-Engine reseal
-Timing Chain replacement
-Front Upper control arms
-My rearview mirror also fell off due to heat so I had to get that job done as well

I waited a little bit and took it in today, the price for all of these $4300.

It's quite a steep price, I spoke to some friends and they said the car is good to run for at least another 8-10years/100K miles following this repair.

But it just hurts to put in $4.5k after buying the car around 18 months ago.

For anyone who's had Audi's with similar issues, has the car stood up for another 100k miles and what other maintenance/costs can I expect?

2023 Audi Q5 Progressiv S-Line (Black Optic) - Certified Pre-Owned (Canada)

Hey everyone,

I am finalizing a deal on a 2023 Audi Q5 Progressiv S-Line with the Package Noir (Black Optic) here in Canada, and I would love some feedback on the numbers and the vehicle itself before I sign the final paperwork.

The Vehicle Details:

Mileage: Currently sitting around 48,000 km.

History: Single-owner lease, completely clean CARFAX (no accidents/damage). Every single service milestone was completed exactly on time at the same local Audi dealership. The 45,000 km service and brake fluid flush are already done. Total of 11 service records at Audi dealer since May 2023

Specs: Loaded up with the S-Line sport package, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, Virtual Cockpit, heated steering wheel, navigation, and wireless CarPlay.

The Deal Structure:

Vehicle Base Price: $39,000 CAD

Warranty: The contract explicitly lists the Audi Certified :plus Extended Warranty included until May 26, 2029, or 160,000 km for $0 extra.

Financing: 3.49% APR for 48 months. (Vehicle plus warranty) - Zero down payment

Monthly Payment: $916.55 CAD (Total financed amount is $41,006.23 after 5% QC GST, registration, etc.). I will pay the remaining 10% provincial tax when I register it at home in New Brunswick.

The salesperson mentioned that they will repair any minor scratches or dents, perform the official Audi CPO 300+ point inspection, and detail it so it leaves "like new."

My questions for the community -

  1. How is the pricing? For a 2023 Q5 Progressiv S-Line with 48k km and the 2029 CPO warranty fully included for $39,000 CAD, does this look like a solid deal in the current market?
  2. Is 3.49% a good rate right now? It feels pretty low compared to current standard used car rates, but want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
  3. The 60,000 km Service: Since the car has 48k km, I know the major 60k service (S-tronic transmission fluid flush and spark plugs) is coming up in about 12,000 km. Should I push the dealer to do this early for free before delivery, or just ask them to discount an Audi Care prepaid maintenance package?
  4. Warranty vs. Independent Mechanic: To keep the Certified :plus warranty active until 2029, do I absolutely have to service the car at an Audi dealership, or am I safe using a certified independent Euro mechanic as long as I keep every single receipt?
  5. Long-Term Reliability: I plan to keep this car for the next 7 to 8 years (taking it to roughly 130,000–150,000 km). Are there any major mechanical landmines I should prepare for with the 2023 2.0T engine or the S-tronic transmission once it gets older?
  6. Delivery Day Tips: What should I double-check on the official paperwork and the car physical body before driving off the lot to make sure they actually fulfilled their verbal promises?
  7. Audi Care vs. Warranty Breakdown: Can someone explain exactly what the Audi Care prepaid maintenance package covers versus what my included Certified :plus warranty covers? If I add Audi Care to cover the upcoming 60k km transmission flush and spark plugs, what is a fair price to pay the dealer for it in Canada right now?
  8. What should I ask the salesman right now? I want to keep this guy completely honest before I sign the final contract. What specific, hard questions should I ask him about the inspection report, the car's current wear-and-tear measurements, and the exact service they are performing before delivery?

Anyone completed or attempted a buy back for the all new 2025 Q5 in Canada?

As the title states, my patience is now zero. I'm probably one of the few that actually likes the refreshed look.

But it's becoming software issue after issue. One gets fixed another shows up.

The one issue that has finally made me snap is they fixed my driver assist issues, but now Andriod Auto is unusable it keeps reconnecting. (Minor I know). Oh and now the random car alarm.

Anyways anyone in Canada had any luck?

2025 Q5 Brake Pads

Got a demo 2025 Q5 at 6000km. Haven’t had the car 1 year yet and it already needs new brake pads? It only has 18000km on it. Is this normal ??

Also, how much longer can I drive? I have an appointment on Tuesday but need to drive ~500km before then. Will it be ok?

Edit: car is on a lease and under 4 year warranty
TIA!

Is this normal? Air suspension noise when locking/unlocking 2025 Audi Q5

I have a 2025 Audi Q5 equipped with air suspension. Every time I lock or unlock the car, it makes this sound.

Is this normal for this model? I thought other cars with air suspension don't usually make this kind of noise. Would love to hear your thoughts or if any other Q5 owners experience the same thing.

2025 Q5 Prestige - what's a "can't refuse" price right now (US)?

What should I do to make my Audi Q5 louder?

I have a 2010 Audi Q5 3.2L V6 stock and I want to have a louder exhaust. I was thinking of getting a resonator and muffler delete. Any exhaust systems I would install like the AWE Tuning Q5 3.2L Non-Resonated Exhaust System are way out of my budget. I would also consider just getting a muffler delete but idrk. I don't care about highway drone as I am basically half deaf anyway and I turn up music so yeah. Plus I find drone like asmr. Any suggestions. I'm trying not to go over $800 though. I also would prefer if I jsut had a one and done solution because I don't want to go back and pay multiple times to redo (that's why I am asking).

Edit: I only got the car last year so I'm not looking to trade at all. Lucky enough to have parents that helped me buy the car and I rather not swap or get a different car over just the exhaust tbfr.

Suggestions for tying down canoe on roof of 2011 Q5?

I’d like to get a canoe and be able to throw it on the roof of my Q5. I have roof rack cross bars and cam buckle straps for strapping down to the bars, but whenever I’ve carried a canoe on other vehicles in the past, I’ve always run a length of small diameter rope from the handles at the bow and stern of the boat down to something on the vehicle (like a trailer hitch receiver or tow hook or something like that). I can’t find anything on the Q5 to tie down to.
I was thinking about looping another cam strap through the cargo tie downs in the trunk, and letting it hang out under the trunk lid, then tying off to that but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea. Anybody have thoughts? I can’t be the only one who’s ever wanted to put a canoe on my roof…
