Is dusty paper recyclable?

Is dusty paper recyclable?

We have tons of paper products (e.g. old printouts, paper grocery bags, etc.) lying around the house that have collected a lot of dust over the years. I'm wondering if it's better to throw them into the garbage bin or are they still recyclable?

Thanks in advance.

Edit to Add: My local recycling company's web page says "Do not include soft or hard covered books/novels." I had thought this was because books tend to be dusty or dirty, so that's why I'm asking if regular paper that's dusty is acceptable. And if dusty paper is acceptable, why they wouldn't accept books/novels?

Looking for a basic, no frills purifier

I'm looking to buy a purifier for each of our small rooms to target particulates and odour. I'm looking for purifiers that have NO smart features and NO ionizer and preferably NO aq monitors/sensors, please.

The only commercial brands I know of that fits that requirement are Honeywell and Pure Enrichment, but I don't know which models are good and I can't seem to find accurate technical specs like CADR or wattage for many of them.

There's also Smart Air but unfortunately it doesn't look like it's sold in my country anymore. And I've already tried out AirFanta which didn't work out so I've moved the unit to our living room. If there are other good brands I don't know about please let me know!

My country of residence: Canada
Room sizes: one is 108 sq ft and the other is 160 sq ft.
Filtration needs: particulates and VOCs (especially odour)
Budget: $400 CAD max for each unit (that's about $290 USD)

I'd prefer the purifier to be relatively quiet and energy efficient. It doesn't need to have a lot of carbon because I guess I could change the carbon filters more frequently than the HEPA filters (provided they come separately), right?

Thanks in advance.

AirFanta filters off-gassing

I recently got an AirFanta 3Pro with the HEPA + carbon filters and whenever I run the purifier it gives off a strange, sweet chemical smell that's quite a bit stronger than the odour of the room that I'm trying to get rid of, which sorta defeats the purpose of running the purifier.

I'm wondering if it's the carbon part of the filters that's giving off the smell and if it's worth asking the company for replacement filters without the carbon component? Or is there a way to take the carbon filters off of the original filters I got?

I know carbon is needed to get rid of odours in the room, so I'm also wondering if there are alternative carbon filters I could get and strap onto the HEPA filters myself?

Thanks in advance.

Question about Levoit Warranty

Will I still get the 2-year warranty if I buy it used on Amazon? The unit is listed as "Like New" and sold by Amazon's Warehouse Deals.

What about if I buy it Brand New but from a third-party marketplace seller on Ebay?

Thanks in advance.

What's a good budget Air Quality Monitor?

I'm looking for a good indoor air quality monitor under $100 CAD (that's about $70 USD), that includes readings for PM2.5 and anything else you think a basic monitor should include.

I'm currently looking at Temtop, GoveeLife, and YouthCity but don't know if these are any good. I'm open to other suggestions too of course. Thanks in advance!

When will I get my PIN number?

I got my new credit card in the mail two weeks ago and am still waiting for the PIN number to arrive. The letter that came with the credit card said the PIN will arrive a few days after the credit card but it's been two weeks. How much longer should I be waiting for? I'm located in Toronto, Canada if it matters.

Thanks in advance.

Question about Levoit purifiers

I'm looking to get one or two Levoit purifiers but on some threads saw people complaining about Levoit filters being chemically treated and offgassing. I'm wondering if this is true for the Vital series as well? I also saw someone complaining that their Levoit motor smells bad. Is this also a concern?

I'm looking to get a purifier for a small bedroom (108 sq. ft.) that gets no ventilation and thus gives off a funky, musty odour, which is why I wanna avoid any offgassing filters as that seems to defeat the purpose. I saw the Vital series being recommended but both the 200S and 100S seem to be designed for large rooms? Are there any smaller models that effectively deal with both particulates and odours? I'm open to Winix models too as long as the ionizer can be easily turned off. I'm in Canada and my maximum budget for this purifier is $300 CAD (that's about $210 USD).

Thanks in advance!

Do Medify Air purifiers come with ionizers?

I'm trying to avoid ioniziers (given that they produce ozone) and google's AI overview says of Medify Air "if you're looking for an ion-free model, the manufacturer offers several (e.g., MA-14, MA-25, and MA-50) that do not include this feature."

However, on this product page for the MA-25 model, it mentions a "Standard coverage ionizer". Does this mean the product comes with an ionizer, or not? I'm super confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Air purifiers for wildfire pollution - recommendations needed

We have a wildfire situation in my province, so I'm looking for purifiers that clean up gases/vapors/odours/VOCs and other wildfire-related pollutants. I'm located in Canada and I have rooms of various sizes but I can only afford one purifier for now. I'm looking for any good ones under $2000 CAD (that's about $1400 USD) and it doesn't matter what size room it's for, I'm sure I'll have good use for it somewhere in my house, but honestly, the cheaper the better as I'm on a budget atm.

My main criteria is that I don't want any machines that release ozone or harmful byproducts. Thanks in advance!

Why does berberine make my liver hurt?

I don't even take a lot, only about 50 mg a day. Yet whenever I take it my liver starts hurting afterward. I thought berberine is supposed to be good for the liver?

I'd quit taking it but I have a sugar addiction and berberine really helps to control the glucose spikes I'd otherwise get. I now take 400 mg of a milk thistle supplement with every 50 mg of berberine and it's helped with the liver pain a bit but not completely.

Does berberine make anyone else's liver hurt or is it just me? And what could be the reason?

How do I recycle paper, plastic bags and glass?

Here in Ontario, Canada, we're supposed to put all our recyclables into one bin which then get dumped into a truck and delivered to a huge sorting plant. The general rule of thumb is to put the items into the bin loose but I'm wondering if this is feasible for items like

  • plastic bags, including potato chip bags, pet food bags and other soft plastics all which our recycling plant supposedly accepts
  • glass, which I worry will shatter into little pieces if I dump them into the bin loose or if they bounce around loose or get squeezed in the truck
  • loose paper, especially if there are tons of it

So I'm wondering if I should I bag these items lest they create havoc if dumped in loose, or should I dump them in loose anyways? I couldn't find an answer to this on the recycling company's website and when I emailed them to ask I got no response.

Thanks in advance.

Edit to Add: Why is this post downvoted? As if people don't already face enough discouragement from recycling as it is, given all the hassles. God forbid someone still try to learn the proper way to recycle!

Sometimes I forget to zip close my bags of powders after using them and am wondering how much this would affect their quality?

More specifically, I left my bag of matcha powder open for a month. Should I throw it out or does it not affect its quality much? I also left my jar of taurine open for a week and am wondering about that too.

Thanks in advance.
