[Academic] Sustainable Packaging Survey

Hi everyone, I'm conducting a survey my academic research project on sustainable packaging.

I'm studying what consumers think about everyday packaging and whether they'd be willing to switch to more sustainable alternatives if they're practical and convenient.

I would really appreciate the help!

Bet you didn't know microplastics increase the risk of having a heart attack or stroke! ☠️☠️☠️

Recent studies strongly suggest that microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) in the human body are associated with a significantly increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that patients with plastic particles in their carotid artery plaque had a 4.5 times higher risk of cardiovascular events, including stroke and death. - Google Ai

Who isn't concerned about their heart health, especially if you're over 40??? We must do something about this problem NOW.. and we don't just have to throw our hands up in defeat because TOXIC microplastics are EVERYWHERE. Join our community and help us put an END to plastic, by promoting pure PHA bioplastics! They're 100% organic, fully compostable and produce ZERO toxic microplastics! 🐢

Mixed messages for recycling bottle. Can I recycle?

I have a bottle or chocolate syrup that is stamped #2 plastic which is recyclable in my area. But the actual product label has a do not recycle note on it. Can I just recycle it? Maybe remove the lid - it’s a black plastic squeeze lid?

Building a home workspace for cutting glass bottles safely – what am I missing?

I'm starting a small home business upcycling wine and whiskey bottles into drinking glasses and table lamps. I already built a bottle-cutting jig, but I'm trying to set up a safe and efficient workspace on a small budget. Besides the cutter itself, what tools or equipment made the biggest difference in your workflow? I'm especially interested in dust control, edge finishing, safety, and organization.

What do you do with clothes that are too worn out?

Hey guys! I just cleaned out my closet and realized I have a lot of clothes that are too worn out to wear anymore. I don't want to just throw them in the trash if there's a better option. Does anyone know of a good way to recycle old clothes? I'd rather not have them end up in a landfill if I can avoid it. Thanks!

CD/DVD and cases recycling in US

I tried to give them to my household collection center and they said they don’t take them. I think my city has recently subcontracted that service to Waste Management but imagine the acceptable list hasn’t changed significantly. My next step is landfill but, really?

Ideas for reusable grocery bags?

I’m in NJ. The plastic bag ban has been in effect for a while so when I get groceries delivered, I end up with a lot of sturdy reusable bags that I can’t reuse. Other than donating to a food bank, which is hard because they are closed when I’m off from work, I was wondering if they could be made into something else? I’m all for this plastic bag ban but I really wish there had been some kind of thought and plan for the accumulation of reusable bags. Like maybe grocery stores could take them back or something like that. This is insane how many reusable bags I have now.

Does anyone know how to easily get this adhesive off?

I really would love to use these glass bottles again, but the damn sticky adhesive stayed totally stuck to them, making them useless pretty much. I tried using a hair dryer, and I'm pretty sure it made the adhesive stay on the bottle instead of the plastic even more 🫩. Of course ripping it off quickly works a tiny bit but there is still a ton of adhesive totally stuck

Recyclables collected with the trash

I’m trying to understand why, for several weeks now, our trash collectors have been taking our clearly marked recyclables and dumping them into the truck along with our trash. I noticed that the neighbors who have dedicated blue recycle bins seem to remain for the recycle truck.

Wondering if it’s because our cans are old, round (green) trash cans on which we’ve affixed large, blue RECYCLE stickers - which seemed to work for a while, but not now. (Though last week, they took ONE of the recycle cans as trash but left the other for the recycle truck - go figure.)

Do we need to buck up and buy a blue bin?

EDIT: I added a photo of one of the cans to show the recycle sticker.
