Is there a typology or proper terms for the plates that cover the inner elbow/knee. I know the term for the whole is poleyn, but curious about the more stylistic parts. My guess the circles are called rondels, but are the others based on specific species of fish or leaves? Playing cards, since some look like spades, hearts, and clubs?
I have heard that ancient Greek hearths were kept perpetual unless there was a death. In that instance, they were relit by the city hearth after grieving. How were hearths tended overnight? Was there an equivalent to smooring, or was there always someone awake (in shifts)?
So often, Herakles is said to use a bow as his ranged weapon, but there is at least one depiction of him with a sling slaying the Stymphalian birds instead of the bow as often written.
Furthermore, I’ve been thinking about the potential that his secondary weapon was a throwing stick/club because while the myth with Celtine says he left his bow, for Celts, it makes more sense to leave a club (melee or throwing) than a bow because archery was not major in Gaul. Yes I know that, as written, it is likely a copy of the Scythian myth on top of it not being written by a Gaul. But it gets even more interesting as some references to Gallo-Germanic war clubs (like those of the Batavians) were not only mentioned in relation to Hercules, but also that they were curved and thrown.
So my question is, would his secondary weapon be more determined by the culture telling/showing the myth?
What’s your favorite in-universe origin of Superman’s suit? Canon or fanon? For me canonically, I like that his cape was his blanket and his boots the seat leather. My fanon is that his belt was the seatbelt, his trunks was his onesie, and his glasses the ship’s glass. I’m still trying to figure a possible origin (though most certainly sewn by Ma) material for the main blue body.
