Cies islands: permits

In the day I am interested, there is only 1 slot available, and i travel with my kid (which also requires a separate permit).

Do you know by chance if i can get the permits for "camper" instead? what would be the difference?

any other solution/secondary market? or going there by guided tour?

Covadonga lake access by car in August?

Thinking of visiting the Covadonga lake from Cangas. We will have a car.

I found an old thread saying: "Covadonga lakes, it's not ideal because in peak season you can't just go on your own, everybody needs to use the public buses to access the area"

Is that true?

Galicia suggestions and itinerary recommendation

Hi
Will be landing in Coruna at the beginning of August and have rented a car.
Since we land at 19:30 and need time to pick up the car I doubt we will have time to go straight to Santiago (have a 12yo kid). We will then was thinking to spend the first night in Coruna and then move to Santiago the day after.

How many nights would you suggest in Santiago?, 2 are enough or 3 nights are needed? Assuming we arrive in Santiago in the afternoon after Coruna, we spend a night there and the day after we do Cies: i see Fisterra seems to be a detour on our way back to Santiago? should we plan Fisterra as another day trip from Santiago?

Also, I am open to your suggestions on what to visit once in Santiago and how to best organize it.

GRACIAS!

Galicia e Asturias

- 2nights in Coruna+ 2 in ribeira sacra + 3 cangaas de onis + 2 potes + 2 santillana de mar + 2 san sebastian + 1 bilbao

OR

1 coruna + 2 santiago + 3 Cangas + 3 Llanes + 4 santander + 2 san sebastian

Summer waterproof breathable jacket (again)

I know it gets asked often, unfortunately where I live I don’t have the chance to try all the suggestions.
I have already the Patagonia torrentshell 3l. I used to have the previous 2l version which delaminated and Patagonia replaced with the new version. The jacket seems to have it all: waterproof pitzips strong. However it is hard and noisy, and I get wet inside. I would like to find something softer and more comfortable and really breathable. I would use it only for occasional protection during hottest months also in urban setting, or something light to throw in your bag before leaving “just in case”. I already have heavier waterproof jackets for snow or hiking.
So I am considering as an alternative to torrentshell: norrona falketind dri (but no pitzips) montura magic jacket (I heard the new version is not anymore what used to be). I am sure RAB makes something similar.
Should I give up the waterproofness and check water resistant instead? Is there any delamination risk if I pick a non 3L?
Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

Spain with 12yo kid, 2 weeks in august

hi,

Looking for some idea for a trip in august, first two weeks. Leaving from Italy, with my 12yo daughter.

We were thinking about Spain, and ideally would love to see the eclipse on the 12th of august.

Ideally flying there and renting a car. Also, i would imagine returning the car to a different airport.

Would you be so kind to suggest a potential itinerary, mixing up nice things to see, nature, seaside, in general something more active than "too much relaxed", and considering the presence of a 12yo kid? any idea is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Large mesh hats with covered skull?

I tried the Outdoor Research Swift Air cap, which was perfect on paper, with large mesh on the side and covered on top. I thought the fit would be like their Swift cap, however it sits much lower and it hurts my ears. So I am looking for a cap to be used under hot direct sun, breathing well but also protecting my almost bald head. I see many brands (RNNR etc) do a mesh with small holes on top as well, which make me question how protective they might be. I see RNNR also does the "Distance Hat: Unicorn" which is aligned with my ask, but i'd prefer something more... discreet and simple in terms of colors and look.

Anything you might suggest? i saw the BAMBU WERX would be perfect, but too expensive to ship to Italy.

Dieffenbachia cresciuta, senza foglie sotto

https://postimg.cc/gallery/NwQ9pCK

Norvan mesh cap

Does this cap cover the top of your head? Or also the top is mesh as it seems from the pics?

Because if it is mesh then I don’t see how it can really protect from direct sun exposure? Other brands do a similar mesh however the top is covered (e.g. OR swift air).

Acero inizia a seccare

cosa devo fare? devo travasare? devo concimare? devo riempirlo d'acqua?

What’s the deal with Nalgene?

I understand in the US everyone is deeply in love with Nalgene water bottles. To me, they look as any other hard plastic bottle.
I switched first to soft flask and then to camel reservoir in the backpack. I still use hard bottles, but those are thermos to keep the liquid warm.
What makes Nalgene so special for you? People talk and write about it like if there is something special or secret

Didn’t have the chance to see it live, but looking at the pictures I am not sure I understand how the bottom side straps work.

It seems they are behind the pockets attached at the hip belt?

Or are they independent from the belt?

Can you fasten them or are they simply a loop to keep the poles in place, without tightening them?

Was thinking that sun hoodies are the solutions, then I discovered by chance that Rab has the same Sonic long sleeve but rather than hoody has quarter zip

https://rab.equipment/eu/mens-sonic-ls-zip-qcc-53

I guess it is exactly the same as the hoody right?

Do also other brands have light breathable wicking first layer? What would you recommend? For sun hoody the most recommended are OR Echo and MH Crater Lake.

So yesterday I was asking about hard boots, forgetting that my current soft boots might also play a role. I have been using these for years now, and they still give me marks and bruises on my shines. Two symmetrical marks on my shins.

Has any tried the new Northwave Domain 2 spin ?

What are other stiff, low volume and comfortable boots for splitting?

usual wknd trips with skiers only, struggled to keep the tempo and also on massive traverses where I had to use rampant. Always the last one. When i make it to the top (if ever) they have finished the break and it's time to go down. And not even mentioning the long flats on the way down. It seems it is more common here in Europe vs US, where from your videos i see better powder and more vertical terrain, where you probably have shorter laps and re-skinn during the same day, while here is one long way up and one down only.

So I am thinking of moving, despite everyone suggesting to move to skis (which I am not interested). And I saw these:

SPLITPIN - DER SOFTE SPLITBOARD HARDBOOT - SAISON 2024/2025

Splitpin - splitboard hardboot (@splitpin.ch) • Instagram photos and videos

Alpenglow on Splitpin

it seems these are the usual variation on Atomic/Dalbello

How would you compare these to KeyEquipment? any other insight is highly appreciated
