most of you are building wrong on emergent

I am seeing pattern i keep seeing and i have done it myself. If someone has an idea. first thing they build is the landing page nd then auth nd then a settings screen and then billing, with three weeks in they have a very nice shell with nothing inside it, and they are tired.

The thing that would tell you whether the idea is any good is the one bit they build last, because it is the hard bit, so we build the hard bit first. ugly, no login, no styling, running on your laptop. if the hard bit is not interesting once it works, you saved yourself three weeks.

i think this got worse rather than better with agents, because the shell is now so cheap to produce that you can have a polished product with no substance in an afternoon.

Disagree with me, interested if people think the opposite.??

I honestly can’t wait to see how my team Barca actually plays

Rodri is done, Cancelo is back, Gordon is already here, and there are still more moves happening. On paper, this squad looks really interesting.

What I'm most curious about isn't the names though, it's the chemistry

We already have Pedri, Frenkie, Fermin, Gavi and the other midfield options, so, It's about seeing how he changes the balance of the team.

Pedri with more freedom, Frenkie having Rodri behind him, Cancelo giving us another option from the back, Gordon bringing pace and pressing... there are so many combinations Flick can try.

And then there's the big question: the No. 9.

Alvarez seems increasingly difficult, so if that deal doesn't happen, who should Barca actually go for? Gyokeres, Luis Suarez, Lautaro, or someone else?

The squad looks interesting on paper. Now I want to see whether Flick can actually make all these pieces work together.

did the bed back panel in a wood-look laminate instead of veneer, 8 months in, would do it again

veneer quote for this wall was 58k. laminate came to just under 19k including the ply and the labour. same wall. two decisions i'd repeat:

I like that i did half height, not floor to ceiling**.** everyone does floor to ceiling and in a normal bedroom with a 10ft ceiling, it starts feeling like a hotel room.

**horizontal grain.** the room is narrow and running the grain sideways widened it. carpenter tried very hard to get me to agree for vertical since its easier to join but i said gh*nta.

used a dark walnut, matte, worked out to around 2,400 a sheet. the room gets hard morning light from the right (N-N-East) and anything glossy would have turned the whole thing into a reflector right into bed.

how does this look? anyone done floor to ceiling instead?

Is there an AI app builder that handles the backend too?

I've tried a few of the AI app builders and I noted the same pattern.

The first 70% is ridiculously easy. Making a dashboard or landing page gets done in minutes but when i need a proper database record and make something that works, it consumes so much time and credits, that it becomes unreasonable.

For people who have shipped something, what are you using?

Emergent, Lovable, Replit, Bolt, something else?

I am looking for something that can build basic backend and make something I can demonstrate end to end.

keep dying in final rounds. are ai mock interview tools actually worth it or should i just find humans

So you know third final-round rejection this quarter. Earlier rounds fine, finals fall apart, pretty sure it's the pressure of performance at that final leg. I know self-practice out loud is stupid because it can be an echo chamber - there's no pushback; and my friends give me softballs.

People who've used the ai mock tools: do they really simulate pressure and give feedback, or is it a chatbot reading a question list? worth paying for any of them?

Tetr looks great for entrepreneurship, but what if I don't want to be a founder?

This is probably the most nagging question about Tetr. I understand why someone who wants to start a company would be interested in it. But what if you eventually want to work at a consulting firm, tech company, startup, investment fund or something similar?

Does spending four years building businesses make you more employable for those kinds of careers? Or does having such an unconventional degree make things harder?

The best before date on a bag of salt is one of the funniest things in the supermarket

Salt is a rock. it is older than every living thing on earth. the bag says best before march 2027.

The date is for the packaging and for whatever anti-caking agent is in there if its a refined one.

Sea salts with moisture can technically pick up stuff from the air over years if you leave them open, and iodised salt does lose its iodine over about a year or two which is the one case where the date means something. But plain salt, in a sealed bag, in a cupboard? there is no expiry. the romans paid people in it partly because it doesnt go off.

I have a bag of celtic sea salt thats been open since 2022 and it is completely fine, just gone a bit solid, which you fix by hitting it lol. Apparently thats the moisture, its sun-dried rather than kiln-dried so it keeps some of the seawater it came out of. Its a feature rather than the bag having gone off, which took me a while to work out.

Which ai video tools do native audio and which are just bolting on a soundtrack after?

Half these tools claim output with audio and it turns out they mean they picked a stock track for you. i want the model generating sound that matches what's on screen. From what i can tell only a couple of models do it natively. which ones, and does it survive being cut into a real edit or does it fall apart the moment you trim?

I know seedance doing it, what else?

sora's actually gone. what did everyone move to?

The api went in september and the app went in april. i had a whole workflow built on it and i've been putting off dealing with this. What i need: upload my own image as a starting frame, rights i can use commercially, no watermark on the paid tier. that's it.

what did you land on, and what did you have to give up?

my coworker who can't do a vlookup is a "senior data scientist" on linkedin

We have identical job titles, we do identical work. she got laid off last month and was open about her salary on the way out, she was on $67/hr, i'm on $55.

So out of pure spite i went and looked at her linkedin. Every role on there is listed one full level above what it really was. our current job, which is data analyst, is senior data scientist & product owner. The contract role before this one, which i know for a fact was six months of cleaning spreadsheets, is lead analytics consultant. I have spent four years being accurate. i wrote "data analyst" because that is the words on my contract.

I'm not angry at her, honestly, I'm angry that she was right.

Is everyone doing this and i'm the last honest person remaining on linkedin?
