Accidentally stunted my bichirs…

I didn’t realize I had to do regular 50% water changes and it has been nearly 7 months… they have barely grown past 5 inches. I definitely should have come to this subreddit sooner as I was very worried about why they’re not growing. Well… now I know why. Will they grow at all now that I am doing water changes? I feel terrible, I hope I did not ruin their growth completely.

Not growing at all in 7 months?

My two bichirs haven’t grown more than 1.5 inch in the past 7-8 months. I’m super confused, I feed them a regular diet of carnivore pellets, tilapia and bloodworms and change the water. They are in a 40 atm but I don’t know if that is the cause of their slow growth. I am definitely concerned. They are 4.5 inches right now

How does my tank look?

Ive had it for 8 months and personally I think it looks great. Stocked with three 4-5” senegal bichirs and a bristlenose pleco. Planning on upgrading to a 100 gal within the next few months!

Asking for a 100 gallon for my birthday

My baby bichirs are currently in a 40 breeder and while its not a horrible size, I know I could do better for them. Asking my parents for a larger tank, preferably a 75-100 gallon for them! I cannot wait to decorate the tank and make it beautiful for my babies
My parents will definitely allow it (I just don’t want to pay for the tank if I don’t have to XD )

Boy or girl?

Not sure how to tell. This is my bristlenose pleco. It has a few whiskers growing and is about 2” long

Best enclosure for trapping humidity?

I currently have a 5 gallon aquarium style tank with a screen top and it doesn’t hold humidity at ALL. I was curious if there is anything better I can use? Ty in advance!

Best online place to get an ivory pede?

Edit: Locates in the USA

My local aquarium and vivarium shop told me they won’t be getting them in for quite some time, so I was curious if there are any reputable online sellers/breeders that have any? My tank is all set up, I just need the pede lol

Is this wood okay?

Went foraging for some rotted/partially rotted wood and twigs. I live by a large nature reserve so I am not too concerned about pesticides or chemicals. I also got bark and some burnt charcoal (abandoned campfire i found). Is this safe for my future pede? If so, how hot and long do i bake it? Thanks in advance!

Updated setup (no pede yet)

Thank you all for the advice in my last post! Still a WIP (I will be foraging for some rotting hardwood once the rain dies down) I added plenty of moss and mixed a lot of milly safe leaves and twigs into the substrate, will be mixing the wood into it as well once I get my hands on it
I reduced how much of the soil there was due to concerns about the coco in it, and I will make sure the ratio of edible substrate to non edible is high
Super excited to get my pede!
Btw that is a hollow seedpod hide :) someone mistook it for a rock so I wanted to clarify
No rocks in this setup!

(No pede yet) how is my setup?

I DO NOT HAVE A MILLIPEDE YET!!

All constructive criticism is welcomed! This is a 5 gallon tank with a mix of milly mix and reptisoil, along with some milly safe oak leaves, moss, clean twigs and a little hide. I suspect the soil is a little too shallow (it is 3 inches deep) so if it is please lmk and I will add more! I plan on getting a smaller species since this is my first setup :)

I followed the advice of a millipede owner at my local fish and vivarium shop so hopefully the information was correct

In love with this photo

This is by far my favorite setup I’ve ever accomplished!

“Pede in a pod” didn’t work out, are there any reliable places online to find a pede?

Just an update on the pede cups: I checked and I am 90% sure they are dead…

I will take you guy’s advice and try to find an ethical and reputable seller for my future pede. I heard they are sold on morphmarket- are there any specific sellers or other websites that have pedes that can fit in my 5 gal? I can also buy a 10 gal too!

I’m pretty sure scarlet and bumblebee millipedes will fit in it. 5-10 gallons is the max I can do because it has to fit on my nightstand :) (my stand and dresser already have fish tanks on them)

I have a local aquarium and vivarium store near me that has all of the necessary supplies and substrates, I just need a pede lol

Is the “pede in a pod” okay to get as a starter?

EDIT 2: They are dead… I checked during my break 🙁

EDIT: Im not sure if it was clear but I was planning on getting a large tank for one if I got one…

Just curious! I would be getting whatever size tank required if I got this fella. I’m on break at work right now so I snatched a pic of the cup to show you guys. Thanks in advance!

I saw a 20 gallon long on marketplace for cheap, if I get it what species can I put in it?

I made a post about my 5 gallon a few days ago but I was curious what else I could get if I got the 20 gallon? There’s probably a lot more options LOL

20 gallon is the max size I can house right now so I can have nothing that will outgrown it

I want a millipede but I want to explore and research different species before I choose which one fits me best

Digital drawing of one of my bichirs

Whipped out my computer and drew one of my bichirs (Serigala)! I’m still getting the hang of drawing fish so I roughly traced an image I took of her so I could get the shape right
I love her to pieces so maybe I will get some stickers made of this so I can hand them out at my local events
Listed it as a meme because it’s not actually a fish picture

Is this decent growth for 5 months?

She’s not growing very fast (about 2 inches in 5 months) but she seems healthy
I feed her raw tilapia, scallop, shrimp, being shrimp, bloodworms and carnivore pellets (I mix them up so she doesn’t get bored)
I got her from a petco, nothing fancy

What can I put in this 5 gallon?

No spiders or scorpions please, not because I am scared of them but because they are not allowed in the house (freaks my parents out)

I’m sure my options are pretty limited but I’d love to hear you guys’ thoughts!
