From Feeder Tank

Hi all, never officially gotten an ID so wanted to ask. All three came from a Petsmart/Co feeder tank, I’m almost 100% sure, as a “prank” where they were dropped in a school toilet. Are all 4 years old, all about 5” long. All single tail.

Preventing A 300 Gallon Above Ground Pond From Freezing Through

Hi all, I’m trying to find a way to build a 300 gallon goldfish pond that can survive a Maryland winter (closer to the bay, so generally more mild, although did have about a week below 25 this past year). Due to current living arrangements, keeping it indoors isn’t feasible, and digging isn’t an option. That’ll basically just leave me with stock tanks, but it will need to be left outdoors. How easy/cheap is it to keep an above ground tank that size from freezing through, assuming it’s somewhere in the neighborhood of 2+ feet deep. Are there good ways to potentially insulate the sides so that some sort of heater or deicer could keep up? I assume there’s probably some fairly pricey equipment that could get the job done, but from a budget standpoint, is this realistic?

Bearded Dragon Gravid?

Hi guys, recently adopted a new beardie, she’s about 2 years old and has been pretty perfect so far. Her old home was pretty great, only thing we really had to do was add substrate for her. Since then, she definitely started acting slightly strange, so we chalked it up to the substrate giving her new smells and stuff. Today, however, we noticed she was seemingly intentionally making herself look skinny and wrinkled by sucking her belly in. From what I’m reading, they will do stuff like that while gravid. She hasn’t been around a male, so they wouldn’t be fertile, but it would also seem to make sense with how she’d been glass surfing and going nuts with the substrate. She’s well fed, and will puff herself back up to a normal size, and to a defensive size (something she wasn’t really doing at first either, which makes me wonder further if she could be doing it because she thinks she’s going to lay eggs). I haven’t really gotten a better answer than this, but she doesn’t look much bigger than usual either, which would make sense from what I’ve read, and I’ve also never dealt with nor know anything about it, so any insight would be greatly appreciated! Attached are some images of her doing it, as well as a third photo of how she normally looks.

Enclosure Upgrade

I currently have an 8 month old female, and am preparing to have to upgrade from a 3 x 1.5 x 1.5 to something larger in the near future. That said, I’m debating between just sticking with the standard 4 x 2 x 2 or just biting the bullet and going with something larger in case she ends up on the large end. Wanted to see different opinions on it. Some people seem to argue that putting, say, a 4 foot python in a 6 foot enclosure might make her feel scared or insecure (which I don’t know if I buy given how they roam free in the wild) or will at least argue that it’s not worth it unless necessary due to it being harder to maintain the humidity and gradient. Others seem to think bigger is generally better, so I wanted to hop on here and get some more focused opinions. Thanks!

Setup - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Hi all, I just adopted my first Ball Python (or any snake for that matter) yesterday, and wanted some advice on the setup. I did as much research as I thought I could beforehand, but still feel like there may be certain details missing. For starters, she’s about 8 months old, and is in a 3 x 1.5 x 1.5 enclosure, with the plan being to upgrade to either a 4 or 5 foot enclosure as soon as I can find a good deal on one (she’s less than 3 feet long still so I’m comfortable keeping her in it for now), and would like to go bioactive in that, however since this is temporary, I’m keeping it fake for now. Most of the items in the enclosure came with it. The substrate appeared to be a cypress mulch blend with some other substrate, and I added coco husk to it. She has a warm and cool hide, although she seems to enjoy hiding under the driftwood more than using her warm hide. I covered the back and sides with a black foam board to give her more privacy being a glass enclosure. Tried to give as much ground cover with the plants it came with as possible. Added the two visible “bamboo sticks” for her to climb on (and am glad to see she seems to enjoy them). I have a T5 pro from another enclosure that I’m going to set up as soon as I can find a bulb less than 6% for it. Getting the Govee thermo/hydrometer tomorrow to replace the cheap ones I’ve used temporarily. Covered the top with HVAC tape to help with the humidity (she unfortunately seems to have been living around 20-30% humidity previously), although I’m still tinkering with finding the right amount. On that note, I also specifically wanted to ask if people have found a good sweet spot to ensure a good amount of oxygen. Any and all advice/critiques would be greatly appreciated, as I’d like to provide her with the best home I possibly can!

To Substrate or Not to Substrate?

Hi all, just adopted Ms. Sprinkles (the Destroyer of Worlds) here! She is 2 years old, and came from a loving home that couldn’t take care of her anymore. Everything pictured here was given to us by her previous owners. Enclosure is a 4x2x2. I first wanted to start out by asking whether or not it is worth adding substrate at this point in her life. She has never had substrate, and the previous owners opted not to because of the discussions online about impaction from sand, as well as the fact that it’s a lot easier to clean without it. Given the varying opinions, I wanted to see for this setup in particular, especially with the seemingly particle board material the bottom is made out of, whether it is worth adding substrate. That said, I’d love any other positive or negative feedback or questions about the setup, as we’d like to correct anything as soon as possible. Thanks for any and all help!

*Note the temps shown in the picture were due to the setup being put back together right before these pictures were taken, and do not reflect the normal temps. A T5 and flukers 100w basking bulb are used for heat and uvb*

Tank Size/Filtration Thoughts

Wanted to get opinions on running a 75 gallon with a Fluval 306 and 307 as well as a Bacto-Surge large sponge filter for 3 comets. They’re a few years old now and about 5 inches. They were rescues from a high school senior prank, and I’ve done the best I can. Not sure if just giving them up at this point is better or if you guys think that system could handle them, at least for another two or three years before I can upgrade to something better. Thanks!

Edit to include number of fish.

Best Game to Play Right Now?

I haven’t personally played since ‘14, but still love playing mobile hockey games and such. Want to get back into the console scene, though, so thought to get opinions on what the most all around fun, but most realistic game to date currently is (realism as in physics and AI as opposed to rosters obviously)
