New ball python owner

New ball python owner

I’m up and coming to be a snake dad!
I currently have a bearded dragon, so I know all about desert terrain!
But I need help with this. I have a 40 gallon glass tank for the ball python, dome/light recommendation, need-to-knows for beginners.

Please don't come for me. Just need to ask. Please be nice.

I am really considering rehoming my BP. I don't have the space to give him a proper sized enclosure. He's in a 40 gal breeder right now. I've done so much back and forth and am leaning towards rehoming him to someone who can give him enough space.

My question is- does rehoming a snake cause emotional distress like it would a dog/ cat? I keep telling myself that he's not attached to me like dogs/ cats are, so the biggest stressor for him would be the change of environment. He's also not social, so it's not like he's attached to me and would have to rebuild something with a new human like a dog/ cat would.

Is this true?

Again please don't come for me. You guys are so intimidating I'm so afraid to post this.

What size tank should I get for my boyfriend’s ball python?

My boyfriend has been wanting to upgrade his ball python’s enclosure for a while, and as his birthday is around the corner I want to buy one for him. what size should I get?

His snake currently lives in a 55 gallon tall tank and he worries that she doesn’t have enough floor space. ball pythons are clumsy climbers so she really doesn’t need all that height. He got her when she was a baby and now she is about 2 years old so she’s grown to a decent size.

I need recommendations mostly for what a proper enclosure should be. Any brands that you all like? I want to get front opening doors, and something sturdy with a lock because she has escaped before.
I also want to put in some wallpaper for her and decorate the enclosure to surprise him when I give it to him. any and all recommendations are helpful!

(i’m also on a budget! I need something under $250!)

Thank you in advance!

prolapse awareness!! (sorry for the long post)

my sweet girl cinnamon had a prolapse on tuesday. I just finished her 4x2x2 enclosure and was about to put her in it, but when I picked her up she seemed super defensive. And then I saw a HUGE prolapse. I was devastated because i’ve seen horror stories about people losing their sweet babies to them.

It was about 8pm when I noticed. I immediately called every vet around (15+). Unfortunately, exotic vets are hard to come by where I live, especially places that are open at that time. After calling every emergency veterinarian clinic I could find, I started to lose hope. They finally recommended me to one that was 2 hours away & I knew I had to go or she wouldn’t make it. Since the tissue can dry out & become necrotic I looked up ways to keep it fresh & pink until I got there. I did a sugar soak while I got a quarantine tub ready & gently applied water + sugar paste to the exposed tissue.

They said it was a very large prolapse so it was hard to get back in. After 3 hours of waiting, they came back and told me they were successful!! I got to take her home and keep a close eye on her. I scheduled a follow up appointment the next day. The vet said she should be able to heal on her own, but if it comes back out we will have to do a surgery/put stitches in to keep it in place.

I want to spread awareness for unexpected circumstances for ball pythons that require emergency care, and hopefully help anyone out who has/might have this problem. Definitely do your research if you are questioning your ball python’s health. I did a lot of research on health risk factors & still learn more every day. The second you have a pet in your care, you are expected to do everything in your power to help them in situations like this.

I’m so happy that my sweet girl is doing better. I unfortunately did not get a picture of the prolapse to show how big it was. Picture of cinnamon and the custom 4x2x2 background for attention!

Any recommendations on how to keep her as comfortable as possible are appreciated! (:

Desperate Rehoming Requestk

It’s with Great sadness that I ask for y’all’s help! I am in Victoria Texas and I have two juvenile ball pythons who need rehoming ASAP. I was previously living in a fixer upper rv and the electricity has failed. It was unlivable and putting my dogs and myself at major risk of overheating. I have found a new place to live but the snakes can not come with me. Please no hate I have fought with myself over the decision a lot. I have a female normal named ducky, and a pastel cinnamon lesser male named Chomper. Will come with 40 gallon growing tanks (WILL NEED FI BE UPGRADED AS THEY GROW) as well as a few of their favorite decor pieces.( ducky is obsessed with her tree hide). Both are eating very well once weekly on frozen thawed mice. Neither is a picky eater, both are handleable though ducky is head shy. I am willing to meet locally or in surrounding towns like cuero or Edna. I am not willing to ship, I don’t know near enough about it to do it safely. I have plenty of pictures!! Will try to edit to add some didn’t let me during initial post.

10 months old python not eating for 3 weeks

My snake hasn't eaten for 3 weeks🙁 it's my first snake and it's about 10 months old, about 4 weeks ago I moved him to the terrarium (previously it was in a plastic box). The first week he ate normally but the next week he didn't ate, I waited 3-4 days and gave him a rat and he didn't ate again. Today I tried to give him a rat and he didn't want to eat either. 2 weeks after I moved him to a new terrarium, I noticed that his hiding place was too small, so I changed it to a bigger one, but I think it was too big and instead of sitting in it, he was sitting under a floor in the wall. I exchanged the new hiding place for the old one and he started to sit in it again. I don't understand why he doesn't eat because the temperature is good, Humidity is good and length of the terrarium is good. I also want to say that he doesn't go to the hot side at all, he always sits on the cold side

Gary the sniper!

10 month old Mojave ball python. When we first got him 6 months ago, we'd have to leave the mouse on the rock and he'd come and eat it slowly. Now that he's settled in, he's become a fierce eater.

Could I scare my python?

I was cleaning up my python's enclosure and moved it temporarily away from there. He started to get out of the small basin in which I placed him. And while he was getting out of here, looking somewhere, I took him from behind, which made him jump, and later, when I wanted to move him back to his hiding place, he threw at me. He was always a calm guy, could calmly sit on his hands for a long time, and had never shown any aggression in his five years of life. And it was the first time that he tried to attack me. It was obvious that my guy was scared. Is it possible to accidentally scare a python?

Temperature in my room gets too high during winter thanks to the heater, how can I keep it cool for my snakes?

The temperature of the room gets insanely high and I haven't had any luck blocking the forced air from heating up my room way too much, is there any way to fix it? Im open to spending some money if needed.
