I created an iPhone / Apple Watch sailing speedometer app which works well for dinghy sailing

I often sail boats without any instruments - not always dinghies but sometimes (more often Rhodes 19s and J80s). I had been using various apps to measure my speed so I could play around with trim and see the impact, but they were either super unreliable (the watch app would keep closing while sailing), or they were too expensive and wanted to make me pay ever increasing subscription fees for no added value. So I created my own app. It worked so well for me so I decided to make it public.

HullSpeed is designed to be straightforward and legible, not too many bells and whistles yet, just speed, distance, heart rate. It has a big display you can see at a glance, and after a voyage you can see a map of where you sailed. You can export to Google Earth and plot a speed or heart rate map as well.

I am curious what all of you dinghy sailors on Reddit think. Is there any specific feature you'd like to see in the future?

I don't normally post about data outages because they are so common but rarely do they last this long. I rely on Analytics data to track marketing efforts with campaign URL tokens and I have not been able to see wha this happened for 4 days. Has anybody heard anything from Apple? Any thoughts on what went wrong or when it might be resolved?

My friend and I just launched a daily news trivia game for iOS called The Trivia Daily

We aggregate news from a variety of sources using an LLM and generate 15 questions each day based on real headlines. We send out a daily notification when it's ready, and players compete for the best score. We use GameCenter for leaderboards.

Since we kept learning new things from the news aggregator when building the app, we added a news reader feature, so you can read the articles the questions are based on or save them for later.

For me, it has become an interesting new way to consume the latest news each day.

The app is free right now with a small ad banner.

I am interested to hear what you think and would love to hear feedback from the community!

My friend and I just launched a daily news trivia game for iOS. We aggregate news from a variety of sources and then generate 15 questions each day based on real headlines. We send out a daily notification when it's ready, and players compete for the best score (you get points for getting questions right plus a bonus for time). There is a daily recurring leaderboard as well as a "streaks" leaderboard (days played in a row) and a lifetime score leaderboard.

Since we kept learning new things from the news aggregator when building the app, we added a news reader so you can read the articles the questions are based on and save them tor later viewing. It has become an interesting way to consume the new each day.

The app is free right now with a small ad banner.

I was hoping som people on Reddit might be interested in checking it out! You can download it here!

Is there a way to make the App Store link previews that shows up in iMessage show the iPhone screenshots rather than the iPad screenshots?

Imo the iPad screenshots look weird on an iPhone, wrong aspect ratio (landscape) and if somebody is looking at an app store preview on an iPhone they probably don't even own an iPad.

Is there any way to control which screenshots apple uses to display App Store previews in iMessage?

Has anybody else noticed the Trends page in App Store Connect no longer loading certain saved reports?

Have a few reports per app - one gives me the countries that app has been downloaded in today/ this week/ this month, one gives me how many updates were installed from the last version (a good indicator of the install base if you let it collect data for a while) and one tells me which IAP were purchases.

There's an advantage to these over the Analytics page - mostly that I can see sub-day data and I can filter by app version - useful when looking at how many updates were installed over a week and which countries they were installed it (install base analysis).

It seems the saved "trends" reports which had app name filters no longer load but the more generic ones do.

I'm wondering if I am the only one or if there are seeing this too.

This is the 3rd issue to happen with App Store Connect this month...

  1. Analytics no longer lets me save reports or delete old reports
  2. Product page optimization would no longer load for a while, not it will load buttony from the analytics page even though its listed under distribution
  3. Trends no longer lets me load saved reports...
