Is it possible for Electric Works to recover at this point?

While not exclusively an Electric Works business, Chapman's was certainly hurt by the strain that the cost of doing business at Electric Works entailed.

I mean, we all know about the cost of operating there, and how that's been passed along to customers. The place is always seemingly empty. Anecdotally, the last time I saw it really popping off was during the home tour last year, and that's an outlier event.

What's really interesting is that, comparatively, within a literal 60 second drive of Electric Works, you have Mad Anthony's and The Fairfield. Both offer an aesthetically similar experience, similar food, somewhat similar prices, but both of those places are absolutely popping off during the weekend. Without knowing their finances, it's hard to say that they're both doing well, but from the outside it looks that way.

So, as yet another business closes its doors at Electric Works, do you think it can be turned around? Or have they just gained a set in stone reputation over the last four years of being too expensive when they're other similar options right next door?

ALSO: Why do we think that The Fairfield seemed to take off in the same area?

Are there any bands that combines new wave and djent/progressive metal?

I wanted to ask the progressive metal community a bit of an odd question: Is there a band that combines new wave and djent? For more than a song. Like, a band that has that as sort of the basis of their sound. Or more broadly, new wave and progressive metal a-la 80's Rush.

The reason I ask is because I finally started diving into 80's era Yes in a big way. Finally reached Big Generator, the song from the album of the same name by Yes and found that opening riff nearly something that might be in a djent a song. But with way more colorful chordal and keyboard stuff than I'm used to hearing from most bands that fall into the djent category.

It made me think, if this had been recorded in the 2010's, it would likely be produced closer to something that Periphery or Animals as Leaders would put out - but I think Big Generator is a window into a weirdly specific genre that as far as I know, doesn't really exist.

I'm a huge fan of 80's new wave and sophist-pop, and that song scratches a particular itch, so I'd like to hear more. So, are there any djent or progressive metal bands that really like Duran Duran, The Police, and the like?

If the technology existed, and it had been released between 1996 and 2010 or so, I suspect it would have been successful.

We often talk about the Archetypes we’d like to see, but what about artists that you think would have had a largely successful Archetype in the past, which would not land today?

For 16 years, the franchise has had something to put out. That seems to be ending this fall with the conclusion of Daryl Dixon and Dead City. As far as we know, there are no new shows in production, nor is there anything else in the works as a continuation of any of the previous series.

The only show that has been announced that has had no recent news is More Tales from The Walking Dead Universe. The last we heard about that was from the announcement of the show itself back in April 2023, so I'm going to guess that was quietly canceled.

I posted last year about how I speculated that The Walking Dead was going to "quietly end" after the current crop of shows come to a conclusion, and, by the looks of it, that actually that seems to be the case. What I mean by quietly end, is that the franchise as a whole will just stop production without officially marketing anything as a conclusion. There won't be a big crossover series, there won't be a made for TV film wrapping everything up; it'll just stop once Daryl Dixon and Dead City conclude sometime this fall.

I suspect that without that crossover to wrap everything up, AMC has decided not to formally make any announcements out of fear of losing the viewership they do have on those two remaining shows. Because without a proper conclusion to everything, many of those remaining viewers aren't going to watch DC or DD, I suspect. That isn't to say of course that an ending of some sort isn't baked into one of those two shows, but it doesn't seem likely.

The most interesting thing right now, is that Dead City chronologically takes places the farthest in the future (in 2028), meaning that based on the information we currently have that the end of Dead City season 3 will chronologically end the entire series. Nothing about Daryl or Rick returning home is mentioned at all in Dead City, despite it taking places years after the conclusions of TOWL and Daryl Dixon.

That also suggests that nothing of significance happened between the conclusions of TOWL & Daryl Dixon and the start of Dead City, in the cannon of the show. That's assuming the writing teams were coordinated, and the spins offs were actually planned together to some extent.

There's a lot of anecdotal evidence here to suggest that we might be in the end game after all these years, but what does everyone here think?
