Dem France - ok, wtf happened, I can't hold the Germans back

Haven't played in a year or so, so I don't expect my old build to work fully but I can't hold the Germans at the Belgian border.

This used to be trivial with a defensive inf build putting 4 x 24 on the 7 tiles with level 4 forts. Now you are under red air but that's what AA is for until you catch up with air production.

I have put 5 x 24 on the tiles and it still won't hold.

Template is 18 width with support aa, arty and signals and regimental AA. Comes out at like 400+ defense and still the Germans blow through it.

You can't even reform from the fallback lines to the Field Marshal front line as they blow through when it re-orgs.

What am I missing?

Saw a couple of carriers (Nidhoggur and Thantos) running L5's today and was curious as to why people say they are 'shit' these days

Is it just the increased cost on grid or is there something else?

The Golem fits I have run L5's in can go up to 3 bill so carriers aren't THAT much more expensive and the carrier at least doesn't have to wait out bastion cycles.

Thinking about a second run and want to be more 'meta' - suggestions for 4th slot please.

My first complete playthrough a year or so ago was pretty chaotic and was carried by a dual HC Astarion bard build doing like 80pc of the damage. Which made it a bit of a drag.

I have been reading a lot through this sub and trying to get a feel for what is currently optimal in this patch. Basically using this rationale https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/1lpuntq/the_optimization_scale_is_the_bg3_metagame_even/ I would like to be mostly OP4 with the build.

Now, personally I prefer not to have Gale (ugh) and stick to origin characters. Also, I am not a fan of casters in general but this is not a hard rule for me. Astarion is required imo, I would prefer to run with Shadowheart and I did Karlach last time so that slot goes to Lae'Zel or Wyll so I can see a new story.

My current thinking is

Tav - TB OH Monk https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/171kt8r/the_best_sustained_single_target_damage_optimal/

Astarion/Lae'zel - EK Archer (Rivington Rat) https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/1cnz4s3/the_rivington_rat_eldritch_knight_12_archer_top/?share_id=cicrbD8NiPYCOOYTS_10s&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

Shart - Life Cleric, I know this isn't necessary for the base game but I did Tempest with her last time and was, unimpressed. It would feel off not to male her a cleric imo. https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/16zcn98/the_dedicated_support_pure_life_cleric_complete/

Final slot? Another Swords bard? GW Fighter? I am totally undecided here. I would like good synergy with the above three builds and I am totally comfortable with trivialising the base game.

Please let me know any suggestions and whether the builds I have linked are still current.

Solo Run - BG2 EE - do companion quests or not ?

I always thought a solo run should be exactly that. Bin everyone from the party as soon as they join, don't seek out new companions etc However, various guides are suggesting otherwise.

I am doing a solo sorc run right now to actually (ahem) finish this game and I am wondering what people's thoughts are on grabbing companions until their quests are done or not.

Which of the new (SCO capable) Combat Ships is better for me? Retiring a Krait MK II

I have a fully engineered Krait MK II (MCs) but it not being fully SCO capable (yes, I know you can put an SCO drive in there, I already have) is starting to annoy me.

I can easily build one of the newer combat ships (Kestrel, Cobra MK V, Python MK II) and would like to gather a few thoughts from people who have flown these ships.

I am a crap pilot so low skill floor, please and I am targetting at the low/medium CZ level. Any build links would also be appreciated.

I have an alt that is only trained into Triglavian ships (for reasons). I need a 'project' for it and I was wondering about the ole L4 Blitzing. Now, I get a lot of L4 starts are based on range but I am curious as to just how possible this is.

Restrictions (self imposed) - Combat only in Nergal, Drekavac or Ikitursa.

Blitzing Mission (ie do the mission in the shortest time possible) considerations

Frigate burners - Covered by the Nergal

Anomic Teams - Covered by the Nergal

Damsel in Distress - this can be done by any missile or drone boat but you are keeping > 50km away, could a Drek or Iki take the heat at Baryon range?

Dread Pirate Scarlet - Again, a lot of heat in the last room to get into Baryon range

Stop the Thief - Pop the first BS at Baryon range but then you are pretty close to the second spawn

Zazz - Again, this might get a little hairy with a lot of incoming DPS at Baryon range

Duo of Death/<> Spies - should be easy enough in Drek/Iki

Anomic Base Blood Raider - Usually done in a Vaga but I think the Iki could handle this, no?

Anomic Base Angel - I am thinking a smart bomb Iki here might work

I would love to hear other people's perspective on this. I get running these in Trig ships is not optimal but I would find it .. fun.

Is there some trick to this with this ship? I have done dozens of landings this week with a Type-8 and a Mandalay w/o issue.

I approach at 50pc thrust, keep the angle between 20 and 30 degrees (horizontal less than twice vertical) and it overshoots every time. Tried it at 0 thrust and it still overshot (which was wild). What am I missing?
