Just been reading the Manga, question about rock
So, in the anime, Rock seems to be pretty moral till upto Roberta’s Blood Trail, after which he has this sudden and deep descent into the dark side.
In the manga, it seems like he made his decision at the end of Fujiyama’s Gangsta’s Paradise where he basically decides he will never come back to Japan and is sort of leaving that part of his life behind and even Balalaika says he will become a good villain now that he’s become a bad man.
Comparing this to the anime, the end of FGP seemed to focus on how horribly Rock felt about “failing” Yukio and the comment from Balalaika as well as the scenes reflecting on Rock disconnecting himself from Japan.
Another thing that I noticed in both the anime and Manga, or maybe something that I’m just having trouble understanding, is the end of Fujiyama’s Gangsta’s Paradise.
So, in the anime, Balalaika basically murders everyone from both the washinime clan and the kosa kai. Her final move is basically to make a deal with the kosa kai, then leave Japan behind. Rock makes a request for her to destroy the Washinime clan, and she obliges it happily, murdering the Kosa Kai leadership even though she was not planning to do so. However, apparently everyone from the Washinime clan goes underground because Yukio wants to set up the Yakuza in Roanapur, but not before killing Balalaika to avenge her fallen?
It all feels so confusing.
In the manga, Balalaika says yes to Rock’s request, but instead of destroying the Washinime, she just tells Rock to inform Yukio that her life is guaranteed by Balalaika, which is something Yukio doesn’t accept and still wants to take revenge on the Russians. The whole Roanapur thing doesn’t exist in the manga.
Can someone explain this? Also, why does Balalaika oblige Rock either way? Is it just that she gets the chance to do more carnage, which she has a hard time saying no to?
