I’m a student at NIT Uttarakhand, and what’s happening here right now is beyond disturbing.
Yesterday at around 3 PM, a 3rd-year student from Telangana drowned in the Alaknanda River.
More than 24 hours later — his body is STILL missing.
And what has been done?
SDRF search operations felt like a mere formality, not a serious attempt to recover a missing student
The search has already been slowed/stopped, while the student is still unaccounted for
The administration’s response has been shockingly casual, almost as if this is just another routine incident
This is NOT normal.
This is NEGLIGENCE.
And this is not even the first safety concern here.
The main gate of the campus opens directly onto a high-speed national highway — one mistake and a student could die
The campus is surrounded by danger zones like riverbanks, yet there are little to no strict safety protocols
Multiple risks exist, but they are continuously ignored until something tragic happens
Today, students are sitting in protest under the scorching sun, demanding answers.
And what is the administration doing?
Trying to break the protest instead of addressing it
Sitting comfortably in air-conditioned cabins while students struggle outside
Avoiding accountability when it matters the most
This is an Institute of National Importance.
But right now, student safety feels like the least important thing here.
We are NOT asking for sympathy.
We are demanding:
Immediate and serious continuation of the search operation
Accountability from the administration
Basic safety measures so no student has to risk their life just to study here
Transparency instead of silence
A student is missing. A family is waiting.
And the system is acting like it’s just another day.
How is this acceptable?
