California Gig Worker Union
Hey Everyone,
My name is Jahi. Of course, I’m an Uber Driver. I’m also a part of the California Gig Workers Union. We’re an organization of ride-share drivers fighting for the right to demand higher and better working conditions for drivers in California. Together, drivers have the power to change these issues.
If you have been driving, we need support. Right now, Lyft and Uber have all the power. Together, with the CGWU, we can have a seat at the table. This is a nationwide movement. Massachusetts won its union. Illinois won legislation that gives them the right to form a union. California is next. We are less than 10000 5500 signatures away from being recognized in California as a union.
Here are some points you should know at the moment about the union:
- The membership card gives support for forming a union and is not a contract.
- Dues: Dues are voted on by all union members ONCE we have a contract. No contract. No dues
- Uber/Lyft can't deactivate you because you support the CGWU. You are legally protected. https://calaborfed.org/about-unions/unions101/
