Sherman Ace Hardware: NO DISCOUNT FOR YOU!

Been going to the Ace Hardware on Sherman for many years to support a local owned franchise and their great employees. As a veteran, they've always been gracious to me by offering a 10% veterans discount. Home Depot does this, so does Lowes. Menards does not.

Today I had to pick up some supplies and noticed the discount wasn't applied to my total, not a huge deal, but asked one of their long tenured employees the reason. He replied, "We got a new owner. He cut all discounts for everybody. No veteran discount, no police discount, no fireman discount, and we as employees lost our employee discount." Ooof. That last one spoke volumes to me. A new owner cutting an employee discount is a litmus test of a poor owner. Sadly, I will no longer be using our neighborhood hardware store.

Dear Madison wood-fired pizza shops...

...you guys are falling into the ultimate soggy pizza trap!

Over the past two weeks I've been to two great local pizza shops, Pizza Brutta, and It's Good for You. Two great tasting pizza joints in my opinion.

BUT, after all that hard work and dedication put into making a wood-fired pizza (as well as the money spent on the oven), you guys then serve it on a flat plate thus creating a steam trap and killing all that effort put into making a crunchy well defined crust. Within a minute or two that crust becomes a flop fest of sogginess. Maybe think about purchasing some round wire racks to use between the pizza and the plate and keep all that hard work and effort at the top of your game! I'm sure there's others around the city that fall into this trap, but you two were the ones that made me think about this more than I probably should.

Love, A Madison pizza lover

PS Next up, fish frys that do the same to their crunchy fried fish.

How do you guys play "Cali" in leagues?

I've played multiple leagues in multiple disc golf communities. Overall the Cali rules (playing a doubles round as a solo player when there are an odd number of players) have been pretty consistent. Get drawn as Cali, pay one league fee, get an extra shot per hole, unless it's a par 4 or more, then get two extra shots per hole.

To me, this is basically just paying your fee so you can give it to the winners and have less shots per round. Pretty unfair advantage in actuality.

I've also played where if you draw Cali you have the choice to pay an extra league fee (so double entry fee) so you can play true doubles with yourself against the other drawn doubles teams. Two shots for every lie. This seems to me to be the fair play but I rarely see it ever offered.

What's the overall consensus, thoughts, observations on Cali?

License JST4KEY Wi black Hyundai lady on Beltline...

I've been sitting with being an internet Karen for a day and calling you out online for your absolutely reckless driving on the beltline, but you almost took a life yesterday.

My husband saw you in his rearview mirror weaving in and out of traffic to get ahead of everyone at speed. Then you were using the closed flex lane when you had to swerve and miss a road cleanup worker removing a piece of debris on the road. Your swerve then had smaller cars swerving into other lanes to avoid you. This didn't phase you as we then watched you speed ahead and weave in and out of traffic to make the Whitney Rd. exit.

You almost killed a man doing a simple job. I'm sure this won't even phase you, as I'm sure your driving style is the norm for you, but I just wanted you to know.

My late father was aboard the USS Enterprise during it's initial around the world nuclear powered cruise in 1964, Operation Sea Orbit. This weekend I am scanning his 35mm colored slides which haven't been seen for over 60 years. This is the first of many.
