Shame they disappear, I really love the idea of taking photos with them. They're pretty cute and an actual aesthetic collectable, so it's a shame once you crash into them they're gone for good.
Hopefully they change that in a future update or something.
Honestly I think this sub possibly served its purpose, there are many fixes in the new game we would have never seen if we didn't cry about it to the point where it just became a straight up mockery of them lol. Not perfect still things that could be better like anything but I'm stoked with the game and many of the fixes people brought to light.
