Err16 on Minigoat

got error 16 on my minigoat. Is it a due to a bad controller? I took the seat off to check it and it felt very warm. I see that it is a model A300. Is there an upgraded, hopefully more reliable model I can buy?

am also worried that something went wrong with the batteries because I took the seat off to check the terminals are tight on the controller and went I try to tighten the positive and neg connection I get sparks flying. I even went positve terminal first then reconnect negative one like I would on a car battery.

safe to update the software through the BIKEGO app?

is it worthwhile/safe to upgrade the software on the minigoat through the bikego app? I don't want to update and then find that the speed on it is now restricted like happened with my Aventon e bike
