Hi, I'm Neil Applesauce, the creator of Lemonverse au. You may have stumbled upon me or my work on Tumblr, Tiktok or this subreddit. Please read this whole thing and provide your opinions.

I've been developing this story for two years so far, starting in May 2024, having planned a novel trilogy or a webcomic (of course, not monetised)

The setting is based on string theory - there exist multiple parallel universes and everything can happen. So, there exists a universe where every Lemon Demon song is alive and their own person. The most of characters and settings are my own creations, based loosely on these songs. The key is... mostly. The main character of the story is Mego F. Kennedy, who is version of Neil Cic from another dimension, who also possess powers to travel between those upper mentioned dimensions. The story revolves around his identity issues, as he discovers there exists endless iteretions of him in the multiverse, and him himself will never be the Original One, the Neil from World 0.

And that's where my guild comes in. I poured my heart, my emotions into creating this character and his arc. But the fact he shares a name with Neil, also has a wife and a kid, has some similar interests or backstory (based on thing we publicly know about Neil, what he shared etc.) for example he used to have a puppet show, likes popculture jokes and has a stage fright makes me feel shame and fear. I don't want to flanderise Neil Cic's character, nor boil him down to a fictional protagonist boy. I feel awful, since I know he is a real, breathing person, who feels uncomfortable with parasocial relationships. I want to cancel this project due to the guilt. For me it was logical to have a protagonist who is similar to Neil in chatacter, so his relations with the songs and the ultimate choice he has to make will leave more of an impact on the reader. But now I have second thoughts. Mego will never be the real Neil. He was never supposed to be. He has his own looks, goals and stuggles. He isn't my tool for shipping, sexualisation, mockery. I just love the band and the persona Neil presents online, and wanted to make a tribute. I'm puzzled

TLDR: I feel wrong about having main character who is similar to Neil. I'm not sure what to do, and if what i did is morally okay.
