The previous champion for the matron was buried in the tomb, which was obviously trapped. Was that supposed to usher in the next champion i.e the new champion was supposed to be Vex instead of Vax? The champion is a dead man walking and Vax decided to take Vex’s place because he wanted her to live

So, to my understanding, the show is based off of a D&D game played for 2 years between 2015-2017 and just gets animated.
How true is the show to the events in the game taken place 8-10 years ago? Are they changing things up quite a bit? Never played D&D, but im assuming the whole “character dies but there’s always a way back” is a common occurrence and has already happened to 3 of the 7 characters already and maybe a 4th if they decide to bring vax back
