I want to enjoy gaming but want to learn something aswell!

Avid learner here ✋

I have this weird thing where I don’t enjoy gaming at all if I’m not learning anything. I know weird.

What is my idea of “learning“? I’m not saying calculus or stuff like that but more of:

Can I use what I played here in the real world?

I know that sounds stupid but this is what this subreddit is for, right?

Looking for a great shooter to sink my time into – FPS or TPS, singleplayer or multiplayer

I'm looking for a new shooter to really sink some time into.

I'm open to both FPS and TPS, and both singleplayer and multiplayer games. Realistic gameplay is preferred, but it's not a must — the most important thing is that the shooting actually feels good and the game is fun.

I'm mainly looking for a premium game that I can actually own and keep playing, rather than a F2P/live-service game that could eventually shut down and take the experience with it.

Things I like:

Great gunplay

Fast-paced action

Good progression / unlocks / customization are a plus

Multiplayer is fine, especially TDM-style modes with relatively short matches

Singleplayer campaigns are also welcome

Open-world shooters are a huge plus

Character creation/customization would be amazing, or female operators

I'm fine with older games if the community is still active

I've considered some Call of Duty games, especially Black Ops 7, but I've heard mixed things about the current player base. I'm also open to completely different franchises.

If you could only recommend ONE shooter that you think is genuinely worth getting into in 2026, what would it be?

I'm basically looking for that "one more round / one more mission" feeling. And I want to grind, Account Level or something.

Games like Stardew Valley without the time restrictions?

I love Stardew Valley, but the time aspect really stresses me out. Any recommendations for games with the same vibes? Right now, I only have a PS5.

I'm looking for a game all about delivering cargo, pc or ps5

It can be a semi truck or a space ship idc, but i kinda want a game where i can just zone out, deliver cargo while listening to some tunes or something. Something chill idk. Sometimes i get tired of games where I gotta pay attention to a story

Looking for a game with engaging gameplay but also want to style my pretty female character

As it says in the subject. I'd love a game with compelling gameplay but also be able to dress up my pretty character in a variety of customizable outfits.

Companion-Heavy RPG's

I've already played the Mass Effect Trilogy and Andromeda, all Dragon Age games, KOTOR 1&2, Jade Empire, The entire Fallout series, Pillars of Eternity (including Avowed), Outer Worlds 1 & 2, Greedfall 1 & 2, Technomancer, Baldurs Gate 1-3, Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 and Planescape Torment.

Are there any good RPG's with a major emphasis on your companion's own personalities and stories that I've missed?

I really have no preference for gameplay and don't mind whether it's isometric, 2D or third or first person. I just don't like JRPG's and have never enjoyed them but that's the only thing I say no to and wouldn't try nowadays.

I much prefer a silent protagonist as they typically have more freedom but would take even a preset character you have a lot of influence and control over like Shepard. It's also a major plus for me if the companions at least acknowledge one another's existence.

Anybody got any recommendations or personal favourites they'd recommend that fit this? Thanks in advance

Games Where the Main Character Gets Beaten to Shit/In Constant Danger

Looking for games (preferably action focused) where at every turn the player character is getting attacked by something or some sort of catastrophic scenario and constantly getting hurt by one thing or another. Guys who are just really going through it. Bonus points if the main character is a regular guy and not some badass soldier or something.

Games I've played like this:

  • Uncharted
  • Last of Us
  • Tomb Raider
  • Resident Evil 7 & 8
  • Alan Wake
  • Batman Arkham
  • MARVEL'S Spiderman

Looking for an Xbox game I can get completely obsessed with - where I’m in control and build/run something

I'm looking for a new Xbox game I can really sink my teeth into and potentially put hundreds of hours into.

I've realized I really enjoy games where I'm in control, my decisions matter, and I'm building something over time. I want to manage, strategize, solve problems, grow in power, and eventually look back and feel like I built this.

I'm open to almost any setting. Kingdoms, armies, civilizations, colonies, businesses, politics, economics, resource management, etc.

I actually want complexity. I don't mind learning systems, watching tutorials, making mistakes, or restarting. I want something that gets deeper the more I understand it.

I especially like the idea of starting small and earning my way into power, rather than immediately being handed an empire.

Games currently on my radar are Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, Crusader Kings III, Stellaris, RimWorld, Anno 1800, and Civilization. Bannerlord especially interests me because of starting as basically nobody and eventually building an army/kingdom while actually participating in battles.

But I'm not necessarily looking for medieval or even strictly strategy games. I'm chasing that feeling of control, progression, and building something that's mine.

I'm on Xbox Series X.

Basically: Give me a game that will have me reading guides when I'm not playing because I can't stop thinking about what I'm going to do next.

What game did that for you?

Should I play METRO saga?

Hi, recently I've ran into a bundle on Steam offering METRO Saga (including Metro Exodus, DLC Expansion pass, Metro 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux), it has a good discount so I was thinking on buying it, but I'm not really sure whether I'd like it or not. For context, I've played games like:

  1. Outlast 1, Whistleblower and 2
  2. Life Is Strange
  3. Amnesia
  4. Soma
  5. Some shooters (like Call Of Duty, Gears of War and Medal of Honor)

I know that it might be a weird decision according to my likes since I saw a short gameplay and it was like a shooter, but Steam tagged it as horror, survival horror and psychological horror, things that I liked about the other games, and I'm trying new things. I'm all ears for any review of the saga!

Looking for a couch co-op game to scratch the Cuphead itch

(Switch or PS5 or PC)

My non-gamer girlfriend and I are on the finale of Cuphead now. I suggested we play this game because of the art style but I thought she’d hate it because of the difficulty. I was very wrong. She ADORES it, I’m pretty sure it’s her favorite game of all time out of the few she’s played.

I’m wondering what else is out there that even comes close to it. I’m planning on getting her to try Shovel Knight, as that’s the closest thing I can think of, but is there anything else out there that matches the charm of Cuphead? I know it plays like old school games such as Contra / Metal Slug / etc., but I doubt she would be into those because it’s big buff army dude shooting bad guys and not cute old school cartoon characters on a wacky Looney Tunes adventure.

Doesn’t have to be a run n gun side scroller, she’s so new to gaming that she’s open to any genre. Just not sure what else out there will scratch the itch that Cuphead did, and I honestly don’t even know how to be more specific than that lol.

Looking for an RTS that focuses on micro rather than macro gameplay.

I’m looking for an RTS style game that allows me to command an army of units in PVP gameplay. However, I’m looking for there to be no real macro gameplay. No base building, unit production, resource gathering, etc. Instead, I’m looking for the focus to be on the micro gameplay—unit movement, counters, scouting, etc.

The only game I’ve ever played like this was the Myth series (The Fallen Lords, and Soulblighter) but I’ve never found any like them. Would love to hear any recommendations!

TL;DR: looking for an RTS style game, but without the macro gameplay (no base building, unit production, resource gathering, etc.)

Looking for ps5 game suggestions.

I just got a ps5 I have a few games I'd like to try but i don't know many games i could play, I have a ps4 and i've played all The Last of Us games and all the Dying Light games, I also played Mortal Combat and Ghost of Tsushima, i would like to play Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on the ps5 but I don't know any other games i could try out, I'm obsessed with anything horror especially Silent Hill, I do prefer open world games and games with lore and a story line, thank you for reading this and any recs are welcome even if it isn't horror, I'd be more then happy to try anything and just see what sticks, I'll try anything that is open world, racing, has a good story line, is mystery/sci-fi/horror. just rec what games you think are really good and I'll try them.

Games that you can play in “phases”

I have no idea how to explain this well, but what are some games that you guys play for about 30-50 hours until you stop, and then come back to months / a year later? Like the whole Minecraft phase thing.
The examples I can think of are Terraria, and a few action rpgs. Single player and/or multiplayer.

Games with great environmental storytelling

Any recs for games with stories that you piece together yourself through exploring the environment rather than having it told to you? Ideally it’d be the main story but side stories you stumble on are fine too.

Souls games are probably the king of this (though sometimes they rely pretty heavily on item descriptions) and I’ve already played those.

Elder scrolls games have a decent amount of this too in the random dungeons scattered about.

PS2 Recommendations

I grew up with only Nintendo consoles. My experience with the PS2 was playing Twisted Metal Black at my friend's house. I am looking for some recommendations for games to play now that I'm adding games to my Retroid. What games would you recommend for someone who has no real PS2 experience? Thankya!

Series-like games that captivate you entirely like Detroit: Become Human or The Pillars Of The Eart?

Looking to detach my brain completely. that means I need something that engages me as much as possible, so:

- a cheap trill, like, the lower the better

- a series-like game

- 2D/3D (no minimal pixel art)

- possibly with all lines dubbed

- story-driven

- your choices make the story

- engaging gameplay that gets you focus comple on the game

- not a static game (like VNs etc.)

- no open world exploration (especially endless ones)

- no GDR battles and stuff

- no first person POV (at least if the game’s circumstances are not stimulating enough)

- full of cutscenes

- genres I love: dystopian, historical, realistic

- genres I don’t dig: horror, fantasy

(already played game that fit the description: Deponia)

(games that fit the description but whose premise didn’t intrigue me: Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Life is Strange (I actually played it but the setting are too cliché to capture me), The Walking Dead Series (the art style doesn’t capture me at all :())

(games that could fit the description but I haven’t tried yet: Assassin’s Creed series, Dispatch, Stray Gods)

Thank you in advance my ladies🥹💖
