Balls and Tripods??

Needing tripod / ball-head recommendations and experiences. In between leofoto, rrs, and two vets. Going to be used for everything from glassing to magnum rounds. Range use to back country. The Vortex I have currently, while being fine for glassing, is a bit unstable as the rifle gets heavier.

MDT CRBN carbon stock
Straight Jacket Armory 22” Medium Palma barrel
TriggerTech Diamond 2-stage trigger
MDT AICS 5-round magazine

Long range trainer

What's good, looking to either build or buy a .22 rifle to use as a cheaper alternative to my 6.5 for practicing long range. I've got a few options I'm tossing around and wanted some input from anyone who runs a similar setup. No optic for this idea yet, also taking recommendations for that.

Background: my 6.5 is a custom bolt gun, but shooting it alot just to work DOPE and dial in Kestrel data gets pricey fast. Also cant always shoot out to 800-1000yd so having something for my home range (350yd ish) would be cool.

Option 1: Build out my existing 10/22 with Kidd/Volquartsen parts to squeeze more accuracy out of it. This was my first rifle so I kinda enjoy the idea of giving it a makeover. Not sure I could get the accuracy needed with it though?

Option 2: Pick up a CZ 457 (whichever model shoots the tightest), throw an optic, bolt handle and trigger on it, and call it a day. (Best model?)

Option 3: Buy something already built but on the more custom end, like a Vudoo.

New build, findings and recs

Just finished my legit first build and got to take it out for the first time over Memorial Day.  Zeroed at 100 then went out to 400 without issue which isn't much but felt good for just putting the rifle together.  Ended up with a 22in 6.5, build list below.  Previously hunted/shot a .308 t3x.

My only experience really shooting at range is during deer season or .22 at much closer distances.  Found out pretty quickly that my optic, my older mark 3hd, is my weak link.  In retrospect I probably should have gotten an optic first and built the rifle second but here we are.  Glass is foggy at high mag, no zero stops, basic + reticle, shit turrets,  limited zoom etc.

Looking for recommendations in the $3kish and under range for an optic that will do everything I need.  I am familiar with the steadfast options such as the Atacr, nx8 or Razor gen 3 but does anyone have any smaller or more niche brands I can check out? Would like to try something less common if you've enjoyed it.  New or previously loved, doesn't matter.  Will have the option to shoot out to 1200 yd plus.

  • Impact 737R action
  • MDT CRBN  stock
  • Straight Jacket Armory 22” Medium Palma
  • TriggerTech Diamond 2-stage
  •  MDT AICS 5-round mag
  • Leupold Mark 3HD 6-18x50
  •  CAT ODB direct threaded
  • MDT bottom metal
  • Warne Skyline Bipod

Hello all, got to put a couple hundred rounds through my buddies pcc this past weekend and enjoyed it. Looking to get some advice on building vs pre builds. I want to get the best possible that won’t give me a headache, budget is not a worry. Would like it to be short, light and reliable.

Do I buy something like an APC or Space creep? Or do I try to build something custom? If building is the answer, who’s making the best uppers/lowers at the moment? Any Gucci build lists out there? Will be running a CAT can all the time.

TIA
