Feeling current cosleeping situation is not safe for my 9 months old

Looking for some advice while awake at 2am 😴

I just recently started cosleeping due to baby waking up very often and taking ages to fall asleep in her cot.

I have an ikea malm ottoman bed, standard double. I usually put baby in the middle with a pillow barrier between baby and husband. Our bed is tiny and husband is a very heavy sleeper and moves A LOT when asleep.

When it was only me and him I often had to push him towards his side of the bed or wake him up as he was ending up taking all the space and almost making me fall off the bed.

Now with baby i basically spend the night half awake with my arm on the pillow barrier pushing him back every time he moves/rolls towards the baby, or sitting up with baby asleep in my arms.

It has been like this for a month and I feel this is not sustainable anymore as I am super uncomfortable, tired and I feel the whole setting is dangerous for baby. I was looking for some bed rail but I cannot find any that fits our bed and I feel they could be equally dangerous as baby can now sit up and stand up.

Hubby suggested he could sleep on the sofa but baby could then fall off the bed as no physical barrier on the other side.

Our bedroom is quite small, bed cannot be moved against any wall. I was considering floor mattress but radiator would be right next to it and mattress would obstruct our closet and chest of drawers.

How do other families do? Any advice would be super helpful.

Carrier for 9 months old, 9Kg

Hi everyone,

Do you have any advice for a sling/carrier for 9Kg+ baby?

I used a stretchy sling when she was smaller and I loved it. Now I have a koala cuddle band 2.0 that is supposed to last up to 15Kg, but I find it really uncomfortable around my neck and shoulders. I have an ergobaby too but finding the waist band uncomfortable on my abdomen and in general I would prefer something less complex that I could just wear all the time and just put baby in and out when needed.

I tried a woven wrap that a friend lent me but I found it difficult to adjust on the baby.

I am looking for something that could be used for quick transfers (for example on the tube when I need to fold the buggy or at the airport when travelling) and something that I could use for contact naps too (on the plane or at home when being fussy and wanting cuddles).

All my friends stopped carrying their baby very early and they are saying I will break my back etc, but I can still see many mums carrying older baby so there must be a way, no? My baby had always loved being carried and we are going through a difficult phase (not sure if it separation anxiety or what) so I feel start carrying her again would help.

I have an appointment at a sling library next week as well to see what they have available.

8 months old ?sleep regression? I don’t understand what I have done wrong 😢

Hi everyone, just venting here as I am so fed up of reading articles about sleep regression and advice about baby sleeping and feeling exhausted and maybe overload of information is not helping.

My baby is 8 months old. She used to sleep 6 hours straight in her cot until around 5 months old.

At 5 months she started waking up every 2-3 hours but, once held, she used to fall asleep again in a couple of minutes.

At 6 months it started taking longer to make her fall asleep in her cot, but we had an heatwave, then 2 teeth appeared so I blamed weather and teething pain. She was then falling asleep in my arms and then being transferred to her cot and kept the 2 hours waking up and falling asleep straight away once held.

At 7 months she started taking longes to fall asleep (around 30 min) after every time she woke up, so I ended up making her fall asleep next to me in my bed and then transferring her back once asleep.

we are 8 months now and it is taking around 1 hour to make her sleep in my arms/next to me in bed, then impossible to transfer her to her cot without waking her up. Bed time starts at 7pm, she is usually asleep around 8pm after and exhausting hour of on and off crying and rocking and lying in my bed together etc, then I usually try to transfer her and after many attempts she is usually in her cot by 11pm. then she starts waking up every 40-60 min and it starts all over again.

I have tried sleep training with the check in but she cried for very long tome (30 min first nigh, 48 mi second night and on both occasions she fell asleep only during a check holding my hand). Seeing her crying so much got me extremely distressed so I had decided we were both not ready for it. I felt like a failure as I had always been a “supporter” of sleep training before having child. i even said I would never co slept and here I am just giving up and taking my baby in our bed at 3am just to try to get couple of hours sleep.

i really don’t know what to do, I am just extremely tired I think and feeling I have done it all wrong.

My boyfriend is trying to help but baby takes even longer to fall asleep with him so he is supporting us with cooking and looking after the baby during the day while I nap instead as I find it more helpful.

i am getting a million opinion and advice from my mum, my mother in laws and reading article supporting sleep training, against sleep training, i even bought an online course from some sleep expert which was actually complete waste of money and made me feel stupid and even more hopeless about the whole thing.

just here to hear other parents‘ experiences really, thank you if you managed to read this long post
