This interview dropped the same day Playboi Carti previewed ‘New Tank’ on IG live and the same day he announced WLR had been turned in via his Instagram. November 23rd, 2020 was an incredibly important day for the Whole Lotta Red rollout, looking back.

Some of these photos are genuinely beautiful, especially the empty pool photo and the photo with the moon. Beneath each photo, GQ also included what Carti was wearing in the pic. One of the coolest Carti interviews/photoshoots ever

Song Histories, Part 3 - ‘Designer Shoes,’ prod. Chinatown (2019)

Here’s a brief rundown of the song’s history:
- 1/13/2017: Playboi Carti first records on the ‘Designer Shoes’ beat in a 2017 throwaway. Allegedly, Carti may have recorded on the beat as early as 2016
- 2/??/2019: Carti returns to the beat over two years later during the ‘Whole Lotta Red V1’ era and records a throwaway song titled ‘Bring A Friend’
- 2/19/19: Carti records himself listening to ‘Bring A Friend.’ This video surfaced in Carti’s recent iCloud leak, and the date suggests the song may have been recorded on the 19th of February
- 4/20/19: Carti returns ‘Bring A Friend’ to add a new verse and extend the instrumental at the end of the song. This version of the song is named ‘Designer Shoes’
- August & September 2019: Many ‘WLR V1’ songs leak, causing Carti to scrap that version of ‘WLR’ and ‘Designer Shoes’ along with it
- 5/31/2022: ‘Designer Shoes’ leaks online, becoming a fan favorite from the ‘V1’ era
- 11/14/2023: ‘Bring A Friend’ leaks online
- 10/6/2025: Carti posts a TikTok to his burner TikTok account (richardmilly1996) of him singing along to the song in his tour trailer, sparking rumors of the song being released soon
- 11/4/25: Carti posts another TikTok of him listening to the song in a car (see attached video)
- October/November 2025: Carti, Ken Carson, and other Opium members are recorded listening to ‘Designer Shoes’ backstage at the Antagonist 2.0 Tour in a video that leaked from shelovesmeechie’s finsta
- November & December 2025: With WLR’s upcoming 5-year anniversary on Christmas Day, fan speculation that Carti may drop a ‘Whole Lotta Red: Deluxe’ reaches a peak. Given Carti’s recent appreciation for ‘Designer Shoes,’ many theorize it could drop alongside the expected grails
- 12/25/25: For whatever reason, ‘Whole Lotta Red: Deluxe’ doesn’t drop, and ‘Designer Shoes’ once again doesn’t get to see the light of day 💔

Song Histories, Part 2: ‘Buffie The Body,’ prod. Roark Bailey (2018)

Here’s a brief rundown of the song’s history:
- 5/11/2018: ‘Die Lit’ is released
- 6/2/18: Playboi Carti first records ‘Buffie The Body,’ leaving an open verse near the end. The song is a tribute to Buffie Carruth, a popular fashion influencer and video vixen from Atlanta. The initial filename incorrectly spells her name as “Buffy”
- 6/3/18: Carti previews the song on his spam IG account and announces that “Die Lit 2” is on the way. It becomes a grail
- 6/12/18: Carti records another verse for the song
- 6/21/18: Carti plays the song while attending Paris Fashion Week (see attached video)
- 7/2/18: The song is finished and ready for release
- 9/??/18: Carti plays the song again on the same day he records the music video for ‘Cancún’
- 9/19/18: The song appears in an early ‘Whole Lotta Red’ tracklist that has surfaced when Carti’s old iCloud leaked
- 7/29/2019: Carti announces at a show that he’s tryna drop “in the next 60 days”
- 8/28/19: ‘Buffie The Body’ leaks online, effectively ruining its chances of ever dropping officially along with the rest of ‘WLR V1’ 💔
