Chocolate Lake

Just a heads-up for anyone heading to Chocolate Lake with kids.

Yesterday, the lifeguards found a syringe buried under the sand before anyone stepped on it. Huge credit to them—they probably prevented a serious injury.

This is getting ridiculous. Kids should be able to play in the sand without the risk of finding used needles. The addiction crisis is real, but the public shouldn’t have to accept dangerous waste being left in parks and beaches as normal.

Please keep an eye on your kids and watch where they’re playing.

Grocery stores feel so hostile since the pandemic

Just a bit of a rant here, but does anyone else feel like grocery stores have become hostile? It's at the point where I put off shopping for as long as possible, and have changed to more dried/canned foods to avoid frequent trips.

You have to push through security gates on the way in and out, stores close at 10PM, you have to put your items in the bagging area after scanning them, nothing's really that big a deal but for some reason it just feels miserable. I miss the pre-pandemic days when I could go out at 1AM and buy food, you just walk into the store without waiting at gates, and you scan an item then put it back in your bag.

All minor things but it just makes life a little more tedious and dreadful. (And then of course there's the prices, but that's too much for one post haha.)

Thank you to everyone for all your interesting contributions, provocative debates, Meme Monday contributions, complaining about r/halifax cross posts and making a great sub that is inclusive of all thoughts, ideas and peoples! We are thrilled to see the sub thriving and heading in the right direction!

Thank you all from the mod team who realizes that the success of the sub is based on its geographical name and commitment to freedom of expression and not because of any specific thing a mod does or posts.

Also thank you to the original founder of this sub who was martyred in their quest for a regional sub without crazy bans and censorship for opinions that didn't fit the personal opinions of blue haired leftist mods......the myth....the legend....Lower Sackville Batman..... Some say that the name still echoes on other subs years after their persecution by the people who followed and stalked him around reddit......Some say that he will one day rise again and return.....like Reddit Jesus.

Can't wait to see you at the 5K mark!

Where to get Pokemon cards valued/appraised?

I have a vintage Pokemon card collection that I'm looking to get insured. My homeowners insurance wants some kind of valuation from a card shop for the approximate value before adding them to my policy, which sounds totally reasonable. But I think I've called around to every trading card store in HRM and nobody will do that - they all say they have no problem valuing them, but nobody will give me a written "we would buy your collection at X% for Y$" - they'll only give me documentation if I actually sell, which I don't want to do. AMG used to offer a service for $3/card to evaluate them, but they no longer do.

I'm absolutely willing to pay for this service - does anyone have tips on where I could get a written offer from a card store? The collection I'm looking to insure is about 700-1000 cards - and I've already entered them all into the Collectr app.
