House chores vs cooking involving a 50M and 30M
Me (50M) and my BF (30m) have disagreements about chores. So I need help in deciding if I need to do more. We’ve been together for 10 years. Living together for 7.
He does a total home cleaning just about every Saturday. Complete bathroom clean up, bedroom and living room. Usually consists of dusting off all furniture and ceiling fans. In the bathroom, of course it’s the toilet the bathtub sink and the shelving. Vacuums, the floors thoroughly and mops it. In the kitchen, he’s wiping down cabinets, all horizontal spaces, and the outside of the appliances. Every other week he cleans off the window blinds. Maybe once a quarter he cleans the windows from the outside and washes all the curtains. Also he tends to do all the laundry as needed.
Meanwhile I do nearly all of the cooking and post clean up about seven days a week. Usually one meal, supper. Sundays I make breakfast and supper. I get takeout once or twice a week. We usually work six days a week so Sundays are our only day together. We have a small two car parking area and a very small yard. Using the blower I clean off the parking lot and my neighbor’s cause it’s a duplex and only takes a few minutes. I also mow and trim our very small yard.
I vacuum the floors five days out of the week.
The issue is that he thinks I don’t do anything chore wise. I mean he understands I cook for us but it doesn’t mean much to him. Cooking can take me about an hour which includes food prep. Then I clean it all up, put away the leftovers etc. Not including the time takes to eat it’s roughly 2 hours spent on cooking and after meal cleanup. Since I do it about six days a week, I figured that’s 12 hours total.
His thorough cleaning takes anywhere between 6 to 10 hours depending on how distracted he gets with his phone.
