See the banding on the top screen, capturing the horizon of DQIV? It happens on both screens, if I swap them. Seems to happen no matter the filter. I’m using Drastic. I first noticed it in DQIX when I got to Zere about two hours into the game; I can’t notice it in Stornway or between there and Angel Falls. I can’t notice it on New SMB (only tested world one). In DQIV here it’s very noticeable on the horizon. So this is a software thing I guess?
Is it just me, or does Sergio de Larrea look like a legit fantasy player heading into the fall?
He’s been playing pro ball for almost four years and is still only 20. He looked like he was processing the game at Summer League on a level few others were. He had some huge games there, and I chalk his shooting struggles up to a major adjustment period after just arriving from Spain because he shot over 40% from three over his last two seasons.
The Mavs traded back into the 1st round to grab him, and were originally planning to draft and stash him, but instead, they brought him over immediately because they’re so high on him; so high that they traded away their backup point guard, Nembhard, to clear the deck. Now, he’s the roster’s only true pass-first playmaker. At 6’7” with a 6’9” wingspan, there are fewer than a half dozen point guards with that length in the league, and they're all starters putting up big numbers.
He may not get heavy minutes to start the year, but Sasser is no true PG and isn't going to QB the second unit. Then there's the fact that Kyrie is getting older and only has a couple of years left on his contract. To me, de Larrea looks like a strong end of bench stash who could realistically get 15-20 MPG this year, with upside for sizable minutes when Kyrie needs rest or gets banged up. In a couple of years, he’ll still only be 22 and ready to step in as their starter. Management loves him, coaches love him and his former teammates in Spain love him.
He feels like a smart, low cost target toward the end of the first round in a rookie draft. What are your thoughts on him?
Have you identified any league winning buy low players for nine cat? If so, who?
I’ll give you two names to kick it off and the second name is riskier than the first:
1. Kyrie Irving
Held out through the end of last season while the Mavs took extreme caution with his rehab, but he's fully recovered and ready to roll. Even entering his age 35 season, his elite handle and mid-range game age remarkably well. You're getting a clear top tier window right now, followed by high floor production over the next two seasons before any steep decline.
2. Fred VanVleet
Coming off a full season of ACL rehab. He's on track for opening night, but almost certainly starts slow while getting his game legs back and sharing guard duties. That makes him the ultimate mid season buy low target right around your league's trade deadline when he starts hitting his full stride. Peak target for a second half push, with 2–3 strong top 100 years still in the tank.
