Hi everyone,

Looking for suggestions on buying a car with a budget of under LKR 9 million.

My main priorities are

• Spacious interior (rear seat and luggage space matter)
• Decent ground clearance for Sri Lankan roads
• Good for hill country travel (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, etc.)
• Reliable and less time in the garage (low maintenance headaches)

Cars I’m considering

• Toyota Yaris Hatchback X (brand new, basic model)
• Toyota Aqua (2012–2024, hybrid, 1200cc+)
• Honda Fit (2012–2024)
• Any compact SUVs within budget

I’m leaning toward something practical and long-term rather than chasing features.

Questions:

1. Which would you pick and why?
2. Is a brand new Yaris X worth sacrificing space for peace of mind?
3. Are older hybrids like Aqua/Fit too risky in terms of battery or repairs?
4. Any compact SUV alternatives I should consider?

Would especially appreciate feedback from owners who use these for hill country driving and rougher roads.
