Wal-Mart Mistaken Identity

This is actually a sweet interaction. I was in Wal-Mart and an older lady asked me where something was. I pointed out where she could find it because I am familiar with my local Wal-Mart's layout.

After she thanked me, she looked at me and said, "You really don't work her, do you?"

I said, "No, ma'am." She thanked me again for being nice and helping her anyway.

My daughters are in their 30's and have zero interest in having children. Only one is married.

When people find out how old my daughters are, I am always asked one of the following questions: "How many grandkids do you have?" "Do you have grandchildren yet?" "When are they going to give you grandchildren?"

Why do they have to give me grandkids? It is so crazy!

When my twins were 18 months-old, we were stationed at Fort Benning in Georgia. I was a SAHM until they went to kindergarten. (I worked at their school until Middle School as an aide).

I took my girls to the Commissary to get groceries. While I was in the produce aisle, a complete stranger (clearly someone's spouse) comes up to me and compliments me on how cute my daughters are. I thank her and go back to my shopping. She then says to me in broken English: "I babysit for you when you shop and you pay me."

I told her no and walked away. I don't know what was going through her mind, but there was no way I would ever leave my kids with a complete stranger. People have a lot of nerve.

I have twins and when they were younger, we received a lot more attention that we cared for. When they were about 18 months old, I had to take them to the emergency room. My husband was deployed to the field (Army), and the girls were ill (coming out of both ends).

While we were waiting to be called back, they were in my arms with their heads on my shoulders. They were miserable. I had a complete stranger come up and offer to hold one because "twins are so adorable." I told her no. I also told here that they weren't feeling well.

Instead of listening to me, she grabs the arm of one of my kids and said, "Please let me help." Before I could say anything again, my daughter got sick on her. The woman threw a huge fit. I told her, "I said they weren't feeling well." Fortunately, we were called back shortly after that.

A few years ago, I tripped over a box, fell into an open door and broke my arm into 4 pieces. It required surgery to repair. I hit the door so hard that I broke the doorstop and put a hole in the wall.

While I was recovering, my husband and I went to the grocery store. I had my arm in a sling. A cashier that I used on a regular basis saw my arm and said to my husband, "You need to stop pushing her down the stairs." She laughed like it was funny.

I had an aunt who broke her leg because her husband pushed her down a flight of stairs once. Because this happened in the 1970's, nothing happened to her husband. She finally divorced him after years of abuse. I didn't find her comment funny at all. You never know who a victim of domestic violence is.
