I’m suicidal, spending my days in bleak and dread has been the norm for the last decade to me. Recently I started adopting a mindset that as far as I know, isn’t something I picked up from anyone or anywhere.
It goes like this, tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone and you can die any time, always repent.
For some reason I find peace and hope in the idea that I might not live tomorrow, everyday I was like “Let’s hold it, let’s not commit suicide. Our time to die might be tomorrow, let’s delay it for now,” and then I find myself telling myself that almost everyday.
I wouldn’t call it solo leveling 2.0 but its definitely doesn’t get any deeper than any average shonen.
btw is there any popular media where the power system is somewhat independant of the story, like you could swap it with something from other series and the story would largely stays the same?
Was drafting my novel earlier, probably the best chapter I have written so far but it came at the cost of Mc’s eq. I tried to do some damage control by saying Mc knew he was being baited and played but his ego just wouldn’t let it slide.

I once saw a video on a channel, showcasing system concepts that his course students came up with and many of them were honestly—brillliant. I’m not sure if I could came with anything half as creative even if I were to take my sweet time worldbuilding.
But I noticed something, something that I can never recreate but maybe, just maybe I could compensate.
Just like what many writing gurus adviced, don’t focus on what the character can do, focus on what they can’t. Limitation and cost. Cost is of no concern to me—but not the other.
What I noticed is that many unique mythology usually came about because writers need justification for character not to be able to do something. But stupid people aren’t built for that.
So I abandon mythology behind my power system and choose something that shouldn’t work on paper.
I focused on what the character can do, doubling down—what will character do. Preparing arsenal wide enough that no one character could ever utilize everything while making the only catch is the wealth needed to sustain the power.
Now, the system, people mine energy stone, within it is an energy called Amalgam energy, strings of all forms of energy strangled together.
The energy can be infused into metal and there is something called Augment; which is basically skills from temu, renamed. Augment is imprinted onto a metal, there all kind of augment but what it mostly does is converting the Amalgam energy into a specific energy the augment is designed to. If the original Amalgam energy only had 5% electricity then now it is 99%.
But This isn’t what I was talking about earlier.
This system sound okayyy enough but I’m not satisfied. So I add levelling system to the refined metal.
With total of 7 level, each level unlocks different mechanics.
At level one, user can only shoot out the energy, be it beams, slashes or orbs.
On level two, user can push or pull the metal, with the right skill one can fly using it.
At level three—in raw state, the energy is plasma but can be altered into different state but most commonly used is solid.
Level four, this is where the fun part begin, at this level a user can use the energy to shift into different layer of space for up to 1 sec. During this state, all attack will pass through the user including lights so they can’t see and because they also will fall into the ground, they also used it together with flight. It has cooldown that is twice the duration the user used it for. I called it Untargetable, it is also the most spammed technique by every character.
Level five, level five grant user deep enough connection with the energy to see its atom by atom, which is why I called this, Fission. Quite literally, a nuke.
Level six, domain expansion like power. There’s 4 types with only one of them can be used at a time but anyone can use any of them.
Motion lock (Absolute Dominion),
99.99% energy efficiency (Resourceful Conquest),
Guaranteed hit (Arrow Of Victory),
Teleportation, including anything inside the domain (King Of Terrain)
When a user activated the domain, the catalyst (metal) become stationary and interupting it will lead to it being deactivated. I was thinking of making every type have different size but hasn’t decied on that yet.
Level seven, most simple, Pierce, penetrate any form of physical defense.
Mind that every character can use everything I mentioned, but in-universe, many warriors skipped learning some mechanics from some level to prioritized what suits them. And Because one metal only can have one Augment, it is also a common occurence to bring spare pieces that’s equipped with different augment.
Personally I’m not sure if i wanted to put “level” mechanic on the user or the individual metal.
tldr: What do you think? Can a system optimized toward mechanics and arsenal wide enough, everyone would have different loadouts for different situation make up for its lack of unique concept and mythology?
I was looking for story that features characters with great intellect and methodologies but most I have heard about are translated from other languages which I also heard that they tend to have worse prose than native written book.
Tldr: I want to learn both prose and writing of a believable smart character at the same time.

i had to explain a lot of things in replies of my previous post because I changed many terminology and concepts to something more. generic to make it shorter which end up making it sound like if not literally arguments in the comments. Resonance
Mined from all over the world, humans used Resonance for centuries. Contained within a jade-like fluorescent crystal vein, is an energy that can only be described as half-plasma half-liquid, it seemed to be affected by things within surrounding that had a certain frequency; not before long human find their way into the arts of controlling Resonance using Sky Fan Flower, and over time, even general scholars extend their research into the field.
After matching the frequency of Resonance, adjusting the Sky Fan Flower Hz instantly resulted in changes of movement in Resonance; tests found that not only there is a pattern but it changing Sky Fan Flower to certain Hz lower or higher than natural frequency, multiple times within a second also creates an algorithm, soon they were able to navigate the Resonance energy through mazes without a problem.
Sky Fan Flower isn’t radioactive by itself but alchemy was needed to make them spin and a radiation half as strong as uranium is emitted as the by-product of the radiation. The cost was also absurd as Sky Fan Flower can only be grown in very controlled environments but many back then found it worth the bucks as they can live up to 100 days after being picked.
An alchemist from a few centuries ago found a way to infuse Resonance into metal using a few interchangeable materials and it was primarily mercury but the metal also increased in weight without any changes in volume.
They find a way to reduce its natural frequency of Resonance, that way alchemy used on Sky Fan Flower produce less radiation but the Resonance energy was weaker per-litre despite the increase in volume; reversing the procedure gave them a practically identical Resonance with lower than 1% original volume lost, so they called it Dilution—after testing it on metals, they found out that Resonance lost some of its features and capabilities on top of its fuel potency but people can tap into them at lower frequency, and not before long they found a way to link with Resonance by vibrating their body without external help.
As mentioned, diluted Resonance lost its original qualities hence why they categorise them into 5 Ranks, in the order of ascending—but the gap between every rank is still too high to efficiently train younglings. After diluting and condensing Resonance again and again, they were able to produce what were called Partial, Intact, Flawless, Elevated and Pinnacle tiers; which had become standards throughout the world.
Practitioners have to go through all initial tiers before ascending to next rank—and because they started slowly from bottom, it saved a lot of money as Resonance are not fully contained within the metal, they seeped out slowly. And since metal increased in weight by every tier, it is perfect for training since young age.
Lost quality? Ah, almost forgot. According to records, the original Metal-Resonance infusion technique dubbed Mono Resonance by modern historian, were capable of giving Resonance user ability of Telekinesis over the metal, solidifying the Resonance into any shape, Warping the spatial around it to an unknown degree and the Resonance itself can be unleashed as formidable destructive energy.
A recent test showed that pure Resonance might be controllable by computer but cost too much—and even then, that’s right, only pure Resonance not Legacy Resonance as computers couldn’t recreate Legacy Resonance’s frequency. They were too volatile and fluctuated often as well as exploding at slightest change, it was a wonder how their Resonance users were able to adapt to its ever complex patterns.
A Legacy formula is either held by or passed down in Royal family of various places hence the name, Legacy. Their ancestors were lucky to find a way to change a part of the Resonance quality without compromising its capability; making them a winning factor as big as the level of ascension between two Resonance users itself. Some historian suggested that many kings that had created a Legacy formula of their own are likely were born not any higher than a backstreet alchemist.
As example; Flame Emperor’s Legacy is a formula which makes Resonance combusting on its own. A few other Legacy formulas were publicly known but beside them all others are likely hidden somewhere in royals or noble’s safe.
To better navigate new talent, they came up with an assessment method, using a 1 cubic metre metal ball—refined to Partial Rank 1, youngling will try to control as much as Resonance as possible and graded numbering from one to five.
A practitioner may visually draw out the same amount of Resonance at higher tier but the Resonance itself is denser resulting in higher fuel potency but they also find that the Resonance can be extended in size by stretching them while sacrificing density and direct firepower; perhaps it was because they were familiar with what diluted Resonance felt like.
From records and testimonies of various practitioners , here was what we were able to put together about what every Rank is capable of.
On Rank 1, practitioners were only able to release the energy and nothing else, they call it Resonance Release.
At Rank 2, they gained control over the metal which they called catalyst, in a form of telekinesis.
Ascending to Rank 3, the Resonance now can be turned into solid of various shapes.
Sitting near the throne of Mono Resonance, those at Rank 4 were able to warp a space to teleport over a short distance.

Now about the future of Art of Resonance, using a high powered computer, scientists managed to connect the system to Resonance and because there was no need to dilute the energy, the Resonance was extracted straight from its mineral, maintaining its potency to the fullest. But they can only shoot the energy as it is; the possibility to create both computing chips and motors that can allow machines to do more than that is still unknown. Not to mention the separate defense systems that will demand extra cost and space.
Eastern continent resulted in abandoning the automated Resonance system and created, Quzhujian, a high powered cannon with a range up to 2000km with a projectile that sped up to mach 2. Weighing over 100 metric tons, Rank 4 personnels not only transport it but also guard it at all times and only they and higher ups can use it as they held a key needed to open a special container that was made from anti-resonance metal that contained and locked away the main component that was storing the Resonance. Because it used gears that can spin up to 10 billion rpm, even a Rank 4 can connect to the pure Resonance the cannon used, though it took some time to ramp up.
Edit: The difference between automated control of above and eastern human monitored gears powered cannon is that matching the frequency only link to Resonance not control it, to launch the attack they need to change the frequency slightly instantly and either revert back or going to the extreme of opposite (faster or slower) depends on how they wanted it to move and sometimes repeats that multiple times within a second.
Computers couldn’t do that yet but with the manual cannon the personnel launching it was the one that have to actively slow down or sped up the gear using their own Resonance, so in the end they still need someone trained and highly skilled in the art of Resonance to use their own machines.
It is similar to a technique I had for an antagonist, where she would use a small metal piece that had Wind attributes Resonance to rotate Sky Fan Flowers which is linked to 10 swords, that way she didn’t need to use alchemy to make Sky Fan Flower spin (it’s shape like wind wheel btw) and can use more complex patterns as the she had total of 20 flowers on her. And since the control over 10 swords was outsourced to the flowers it also has less toll on her body physically.
