In primary and we had this French teacher who told us he was from the DRC. He was one of the best, classes were very fun and relaxed. We would spend most of our time singing. One time, when did well in the exam, he brought us Eiffel Tower keychains. One term he just vanished and we never saw him again, he was replaced by another guy later on though.
A few years later, my mom told be that he vanished because he was being pursued by Interpol people because of some connection he had to the Rwandan genocide. That guy seemed like the nicest person you will ever meet. People will surprise you.

You might be friends or relatives with some of people who killed or harmed others in 2007-2008 PEV or a terrorist and you might never know.

I have been thinking about the economy for a bit. Let's start our thought experiment from a basic level:

You want to accumulate a resource, maybe food, Pokémon cards, or just plain money. You could make a chair from twigs and sticks and sell it to someone. It won't be a good chair, so you probably won't be able to make much money from it. You could use some of that money to buy better tools, better materials, or better skills. This means you get money from your savings; in other words, you are taking money from your past self. Maybe it is not enough, though, so you take out a loan, a business loan or a student loan. This is taking money from your future self, hoping you might make it back.

But the bank needs some way to give you that loan. They could use collected deposits, but that limits them, so they will money into existence via the central bank with the hope that future you will be able to pay it off, meaning they don't have to worry when people come to get their money back.

The central bank, in turn, gets that money from the hope that the government will be able to collect taxes in the future and keep people believing that money still means something.

Meanwhile, the government needs to invest in roads, healthcare, and infrastructure, hoping that will allow people in the future to make more money so that they will be in a position to pay more taxes. But current tax revenue isn't enough, so they borrow from your future self again, hoping you will still believe in them down the line so they can borrow from your even more distant future self. Eventually, something will break.

We've made up this ridiculous system where money time-travels. It's obvious that at some point, we'll extract all the wealth on Earth, in our solar system, and maybe even the observable universe in the most efficient way possible, ending up in an economy that relies purely on information. We will hit a wall eventually. But it doesn't really matter; I could just die and never worry about debt. I could choose not to have kids so they don't have to go through this shit, but they will die too, I don't have to worry about them either.

It was a mistake coming down from the trees, even the trees were a bad move. No one should ever have left the oceans.

Still, it is kind of beautiful that we gained the ability to conceptualise the future and built all of this on hope.

I'm shorter than average, so most of my early life I wasn't able to see myself in the bathroom mirror. One day, as a kid, I just realised that I was tall enough (or maybe I climbed a stool) and finally looked at myself. I don't mean that I looked at my hair or my nose, but really looked at myself and I was hit with this realisation that I am a real, existing human being. I don't know if that makes sense. I wish I had the writing skills to better express that feeling. It felt like all my life before that point, I was just on autopilot, going through the motions of life. It felt like was just watching a film or playing a video game controlling a character and at that moment, I could reconcile the body with my consciousness.

Every now and then, I slip in and out of this 'state' but sometimes when I'm stressed out about school, money or other things, I remember that feeling and it completely floors me. It sometimes feels like a part of me, from deep inside my brain, wants to escape and for a moment gains control of my body before I go into autopilot again. It freaks me out sometimes. What the fuck are we doing with this world, what is all this? None of this shit makes sense. It feels like I am about to scratch this itch but I cant quite reach it before going back to 'normal'.

Anyone else feel that way?

How is this harder than literal rocket science and nuclear physics?

Starting with you, your grandchildren, and subsequent alternate generations will be born with some type of incurable and painful illness that lasts for the rest of their lives. You and your descendants will have to decide whether to have children or not. You must have children and "sacrifice" your grandchildren, or the fun stops. Every unfortunate "Omelas child" will live to exactly 80 years old; they cannot die any sooner or later. The entire world will know about this deal, and they might force you to procreate. At least one "Omelas child" must be alive at all times, or the whole world will instantly descend into chaos with random earthquakes, droughts, and wars. Do you take the deal?

The magical microwave and flask can only make food up to 2000 calories per day combined. The room only has the basics, a bed with a mattress that automatically adjusts to your body, and a bathroom with a toilet with bidet and shower. The room has a 1 sq m(10 sq f) window that simulates 12hr +12hr day and night cycles. The doorway can magically appear anywhere you want by just thinking about it and walking up to any door. Other people can follow you in as long as you both intentionally want to go. When you are in your room and want to get out, the door will open into any place in the world as long as there is a door there. Everything else you have to get for your self. Do you accept?What will you change about your life? How will the world change?

edit: Clarifications

The door has to be there. I don't mean a door will magically appear when you think about them. You can build new doors and install them anywhere and it will still work. Just walk up to it and think about it taking you to your room. From inside your room, you can go anywhere as long as there is also a door at your destination.

You are the person to decide. If you accept this, everyone else from that point and into the future will also get it.

I wrote 2000 calories because i thought that is the recommended amount but let us leave it as is. You can still have a sedentary lifestyle but if you want to be active you can get more food from somewhere else.

I have an external monitor that I use when i'm at home and every time i want to unplug, it feels like i might break something. Is this normal or does my laptop have a problem?
