I like that food truck but don’t make it down there much

Hi all - I recently returned to an in person group that I attended years ago, but now have time off work again to show up. It’s a smaller group and there’s only two people there that were there when I first attended. up until today everyone has been friendly. When I first returned four weeks ago, there was mention of another in person evening group that had started up. (I live in a small town) I have asked the group secretary for the last three weeks to add me to the text thread, which she has cheerfully agreed to do. But she has also forgot. Today the secretary wasn’t there, so I made a general inquiry to the group Asking if anyone attended that meeting. Someone spoke up and said “yes I started that meeting.” so I kindly asked how someone would go about getting on the list for the meeting. She said she kept a text thread. So I then stated that I’ve been trying to get on the list for the past three weeks and I’m a little frustrated. Is there a way I could get on that thread today.

At that point, she just stared at me like I had grown a third head. Then she said that I shouldn’t take it personally because no one was trying to exclude me. It wasn’t so much what she said, but the tone. That felt like a very strange response to me and at that moment, I felt unsafe. Then she showed me the text that was sent out before this weeks meeting and asked me to tell her if I recognized any of the numbers as mine. I told her none of the numbers would be mine because I had not received a text.

By the time she handed me her phone to put the number in it, I was not feeling good about this exchange at all. So I just said I would hold off for now. I also didn’t share in the meeting because her presence just didn’t make me feel comfortable. This is the first time in eight years of meetings that someone has felt unsafe to me.

I wonder if I’m being too sensitive. it’s been known to happen! At the same time, three requests and no action is frustrating and I was being honest. I welcome all constructive feedback, thank you!
