Whidbey wannabes?

Looked at a house today between O.H. and Coupeville. Think we may be in love. Curious about what locals think newcomers should know about life on Whidbey.

We are Western Washington natives, UW Grads, empty nesters, one small dog, currently in Whatcom. We're avid outdoor/water folx who love quiet. What should we know before moving forward about this awesome community? Hit us with your hot takes +/- please.

Thanks for a beautiful Sunday, Whidbey.

Staying at a rental on Whidbey but the door doesn’t lock - should I leave?

My child and I are staying on the island for a few days and I just learned that our door won’t lock and the owner is being unresponsive about it despite multiple messages. Should we leave? CAN we leave without losing everything we paid? I don’t feel very safe despite the island being fairly rural.

UPDATE: I messaged the owner on the app and he responded right away and then called me when his instructions weren’t clear. I think we have it handled but thanks everyone for your help! ❤️

Is it necessary to make a reservation for the earliest ferry from Port Townsend to Coupesville during the week?

I’m currently transferring to NAS whidbey Island From PSNS in Bremerton. Is it necessary to make a reservation for the port Townsend to Coupeville ferry during the week?? Even for the earliest ferry at around 06:00 am?? I’ll most likely be commuting daily until I find a place on the Island.

Mount Ellinor, WA - Rainier for Robert

Rainier for Robert.

If you know you know. Reddit has been getting upset with me lately and has been flagging my posts as spam so I'm refraining from posting my usual spiel. Hopefully this condensed version doesn't nuke my account.

If you're interested in my mission you can check out my previous posts on my account or follow the Rainier for Robert subreddit I made at Rainier for Robert.

Number 21. Mount Ellinor has been bagged.

Rainier for Robert.

Can busses stop anywhere on the road?

I am near Greenbank and the nearest bus stop is 30 mins on foot, walking along highway 525 without any sidewalk. It feels a bit dangerous, but also not that horrible because not too many cars on the road. Since the bus route #1 runs along highway 525, can the bus stop anywhere, like in front of my house? Or does it only stop at official bus stops? I never tried taking the bus here before, so haven't been able to ask the drivers. I feel like the answer is 'no' because I have seen some teens walking on the shoulder before.

Mobile motorhome repair person?

Does anyone know if there is a good motorhome repair person on the island?

Just need the AC recharged. Or a place we could take it? We live on the south end.

Fourth of July but Camping

Hi everyone, my husband and I will be camping near Langley from July 3-5. We don’t care about going to any holiday festivities (that’s not the point of our trip, it’s just when we had extra time off work), but I am worried about traffic getting to and being on the island.

I want to get to the Mukilteo ferry for 11:00 and we’re coming from the Tacoma area. Should I expect any traffic to be crazy that time of morning? This will be our first time traveling to the southern part of the island (we have driven the long way to get to Deception Pass), so I’m not sure what to expect any time of year, let alone a major holiday weekend.

Also, I was planning most of our adventures for Saturday, which is the fourth. Should I expect the state parks/restaurants/traffic to be crazy?

Perhaps I am overreacting. That’s unfortunately my style…so I’m hoping you beautiful people can reassure me, whether it’s to confirm my fears or to dissuade me from them.

Thanks!

Anniversary on Whidbey?l ideas?

My wife and I will be celebrating a major anniversary on Whidbey in mid July.

We enjoy off the beaten path kinds of activities and places. Nothing is too weird for us! We want it to be memorable. I’ve done some internet research here but feel like we could really benefit from your on the ground knowledge.

Wonder if you have recommendations for:

  1. An unusual and memorable activity or place to visit
  2. A nice place for dinner
