Alex hirsch just got lucky
This guy was born in California, had loving parents, and sibling, went to CalArts, was friends with some talented people of industry like Pendleton ward, JG Quintel, Patrick McHale, Thurop van orman, was approached by executives of Disney themselves to pitch a show, and then had the most talented crew anyone could ask for.
Then he comes on stage, and just tells everyone that they could also achieve what he did without ever considering how lucky he got, he didn't have to deal with financial problems, rejection, a dysfunctional family who treat you like garbage, or siblings who are narcisstic.
He himself said that when he pitched Gravity falls, he couldn't tell if executives liked the show, but he could tell that they liked him, and that was it. He always comes in front of people with a smile on his face to showcase what a positive, and nice person he is, but I bet behind the scenes all of his actions are very calculated, he knows that people love him, and he uses it to his advantage to sell books even after the show has been over for 10 years. He earns money by fooling people, and giving them fake hope. Jobs, there are no jobs, he has no right to tell anyone that they will be successful simply because he got.
I will never understand how people can not see through his facade, Even Disney executives know that people love this guy, so whenever they want to sell something, they just call this guy, because he knows how to get people to lower down their guard.
If you look up to this guy, then you should know that he is not so different from someone like Steve jobs who pretend that they care about their customers, focus on making better products, but behind the scenes, it's all just a image they want to sell to the customers.

People who praise people like Alex hirsch, Dana terrace, Matt braly, Rebecca sugar, Pendleton ward, JG Quintel, Patrick McHale, Daron nefcy etc. should remember that they are praising a group of people who has created a monopoly in animation industry. Every now and then you will hear a new show getting greenlit, but when you take a closer look at the creator of that show, you will realize that they have at some point in their life connections within this circle of people. That's the whole reason there is a downgrade in quality of cartoons in the last decade, the people within the same circle keep producing shows with the same formula, and it stops any new creator, not within this circle, from creating their own thing, and trying out their own ideas because even the people in the companies trust these people more than they will ever trust a newcomer.
People should remember that for one success story, there are thousand other stories where people failed, but no one wants to look at those stories, everyone wants to be the next Alex hirsch, or Rebecca sugar, no one wants to create their own path, and challenge the existing authority of these giants.
The only reason I made this post is so I could point out the nepotism that exist in front of us, but we turn a blind eye on it simply because we like a show, movie, or their creator. They are no different than corporations when it comes to staying relevant.

Does anybody have a list of movies and series that have been referenced in Gravity falls?
The only one I can find is of The Breakfast Club (1985) in Land before swine.

Those who have been to CalArts and SVA, What was your experience like? What do you think make these colleges different from other colleges? Also, How do you network in these Colleges?
I don't think I will ever be able to attend colleges like CalArts, and SVA, they are too expensive, and far away from home. If those who have attended these colleges could share some secrets, and clear some myths about them, then that would be helpful for me.
