"NEW DEPARTURE"
got this one out to make sure it worked and test some new loads. I believe this gun is a first model. produced between 1888-1902. also known as "the new departure". the grip safety works as intended and rounds fired and ejected smoothly and correctly.
loads consisted of 78 gn Missouri cast bullet. new starline brass, federal 100 primer. and a small dose of bullseye powder.
these loads are on the extreme low of the power scale and more of a novelty these days. point of impact was good and the double action trigger was surprisingly good. 10 yard steel plates were quite easy. the fires casings ejected smoothly and completely using the automatic ejecting top break action. the latch on this top break differs from other in collection in that you push the button down to open compared to the later models that you lift up on the latch to open like a schofield style normally with your thumb. the frame and grip on this 5 shot revolver is very small and has a great pocket feel. the finish on this gun is very good for its age and most of the imperfections in the photos are oil smears
of you ever get a chance to give one a try, don't hesitate to experience one of the finest and innovative pocket pistols of its day..
everything you need to produce quality loads that go faster then anything else at the range..
These solids do more then punch through when driven at insane speeds, their shape and rotation normally causes them to become unstable and tumble on impact casing wounding effects that are devastating...
building a 17-556 can be as easy as a barrel swap on a 556, standard mags and bcg are used, similar to a 300 blackout. but much faster...
getting out the old ones for wheel gun wed here with a S&W top break, double action, what I believe is the 4th model. 32 S&W short with the somewhat rare longer 6 inch barrel
this revolver is quite the piece. very small grip and fun to shoot but pretty underwhelming by today's standards. the top break action works very well and ejects the empties fully clear of the cylinder. the finish is missing is many spots but overall the condition is good without any real pitting. the rear sight is a VERY small groove in the frame latch! 5 shot cylinder. the single action pull is decent but heavier then expected. double action is useable but not great. I'm not sure if it's just this particular gun but another 5th model change of this gun in inventory is quite a bit better then this one... could of been an update or could just be this gun...
78 grain 32 cal Missouri cast bullet was loaded in new starline brass using federal 100 primers. a small charge of bullseye yielded a whopping 768 fps. hot loads are not advised in the small top breaks and these days are reserved for some occasional plinking with friends as a novelty..
anyone had the 17-556 out this spring?
hunting stories?
new loads you worked up?

picked up this s&w hand ejector recently in 32-20 or 32 WCF
decent finish left but has a couple spots on it. to be expected for its age .
5 screw model, square butt, longer barrel in 32-20. grips look original and came with a nice old holster with interesting tooling. working on some loads for it but nothing to post yet
if you have any good 32-20 loads please share
Loading today for a Taylor's and company scholfield revolver. Made in italy from uberti and Imported by Taylor's. This gun features a 5 inch blued barrel and frame with case hardened trigger guard, hammer, and release. Dark wood stocks complete the package and look good. These designs are heavy, but a fun to shoot, and for those that have never handled one feature a top break design that auto ejects all 6 rounds at once. Loading is super easy with all 6 charge holes exposed and accessable. This particular reproduction model has some modern updates featuring a rebounding hammer allowing you to safely load all 6 rounds and not have any risk of the firing pin resting on a primer. The hammer must be in half cock to open the latch and tip the barrel down. Once closed, the cylinder freewheels until the single action hammer is cocked rotating and locking the cylinder into position. Be careful not to let the cylinder rotate between firings and skip one although possible I never experienced this problem.

Yielded around 810 fps from the 5 inch barrel and accuracy seemed good when I did my part. The trigger was factory and while not. considered match grade was pretty nice when good technique was used...
Overall a nice a fun range gun. A little to heavy to pack around but recoil was mild from the weight. A favorite design of Jessie James from what I read. Definitely worth a try if you have a chance to shoot one. I would like to try one of the 38 special models sometime....
We heard vz58 owners wanted to run PLAN B mounts.. so we made some adapters..
