Could someone please confirm if this is correct regarding Maternity / Parental leave?
My Wife's due date is in December and I've looked at the Canada.ca Maternity / Parental leave EI benefits website and I think I understand how it works for the most part. However, I just wanted to confirm the below in case I misunderstood anything.
- My wife will take 16 weeks of maternity leave from the date our child is born. (Not taking any before our child is born).
- I will take 5 weeks of parental leave from the date our child is born.
- My wife will take 35 weeks of parental leave after her 16 weeks of maternity leave is over.
- Me taking 5 weeks of parental leave doesn't affect my wife's maternity / parental leave, and once her 16 weeks of maternity leave is over, she will still get 35 weeks of parental leave.
- All of this duration while receiving 55% EI benefits. We both have required hours.
EDIT: Thanks everyone for confirming!
