My neighbor showed me this movie when I was a kid. We watched it I believe on laser disc, and I wanted to go over an watch it all the time after that.

It's just fun from start to finish. Lots of fun set pieces, locations, and the plot was pretty original a the time. I honestly never get sick of this movie, and it has it all. Running from helicopters, escaping high rise buildings, wheelie-ing a dirt bike through a salon, shootouts, and one of the best showdown finales in my opinion.

Roger Ebert ended his review with, "We don’t believe the characters, and so the elaborate chases and escapes and stunts and special effects are all affectations." I completely disagree with this take on the film. I bought in all the way, and though Goldie and Mel Gibson both gave fantastic performances. She screams a lot, but honestly he puts her through some pretty traumatic shit, so I can't say that I blame her.

Growing up I was hooked on action movies. Before I was allowed to watch R movies it was hard to find good action films that were PG-13, or at least it felt that way as a kid with that restriction. The score may seem familiar to Beverly Hills Cop, as the same composer did both. I outline the plot below, which does contain spoilers.

The absolute balls on this movie to ask it's viewers to suspend disbelief with some of it's plot points is absolutely insane. The plot follows George Kuffs (First suspension) whose got a pregnant girlfriend and is broke. He visits his Brother, a local officer in San Francisco to try to borrow money. His brother won't loan him the money, and tries to convince him to become a cop with him. His brother ends up getting shot, and apparently his brother bequeathed his district to George (2nd suspension), because that is definitely something you can do.

The 4th wall is broken many times throughout the movie, and I'm a sucker for 80's/90's movies that break the 4th wall. The movie is so friggin watchable, give it chance.
