This doesn’t seem fun …

Hi everyone. Wanted some feedback. Basic question: when does playing chess become fun? Am I ever going to love just playing? Is it always going to just be a source of stress? With lingering anxiety after a session?

Some background. I have been playing on and off for years. Highest rapid ranking on chess.com was 1100. It was a grind, and I realized that after getting to 1000 I was really no happier than when I was 700. I will never be great. I realize that. But will it ever be like ‘I have arrived’ or ‘ok, I am content.’? I am coming to the hard conclusion that perhaps there is no end in sight and i don’t know how to make peace with that. Is 1200, or 1300 going to make it all great? The grind is not necessarily worth just hanging on to a 1000 rating. I don’t know. Problem is, I am an obsessive person and have a part of me that is drawn to the highs and lows of play. But it’s not all that fun.

Would like some input from others and see if this is a common feeling and maybe some things that helped or whatever.

Thanks!

Honest question - RED

To be fair I have a mono red deck that is fun, but more often than not I have and play a bunch of decks that don’t always win but I play them because they are fun, interesting, interact well with opponents, etc.

Hypothetically- I am going to a competitive event and I want to do well, or try to win, then why, based on all the data would I consider playing anything OTHER than mono red?

Section DelawareWG to NY

Hey all. Looking to do Gap to NY border. Looking for a way to drop my car off near the NY border and get down to start point in Gap. Anyone know of shuttle, bus, car service? And where I can ditch a car for about 4 days?

Thanks in advance!

Grx 600 cranks NEW frame

Hey all

I purchased a new frame. Elves Falath Pro Disc. I am moving my components from my old gravel bike. I have GRX 600 Cranks that are too narrow for the new bottom bracket. I was under the impression that all GRX cranks fit BB86. There are no spacers or anything. When looking at the old and new bottom brackets it is clear that they are different sizes. Old one more narrow than new one.

My question, should they fit? Obviously not.

What should I order as a replacement? Don’t want to spend hundreds. Would like to stay with the single ring in the front. And obviously has to be length to fit BB86.

Thanks in advance.

New to the format

Started playing about 2 years ago as a hobby to pick up in my 50’s. I know … late start. Anyway. Love the game but the local EDH nights are getting so tired. I just can’t seem to get into the format. My wife and I have been playing our version of 60 card at home and it’s just so much more fun. Love building and modifying decks. Also I love pre release events but they are few and far between. Pauper has always sparked my interest and I’m ready to dive in. Guess my question is where most people play? Did you start with a pre made/ published deck found on line? I don’t ever see pauper on spelltable so was just wondering where the community got together.
Thanks in advance.

Elves Falath Size Help

I am 5’11. Inseam 86cm. Torso 53cm.

I am between a 54 and 56.

I am used to a pretty aggressive fit as I used to race. I am now in my 50’s, still in really good shape, but My worst nightmare in bike fit is getting the wrong size. I once had a Colnago that was slightly too big and it still haunts me. Haha. Anyway. I also don’t want to be totally maxed out on size.

If anyone has any insight that would be great.

I am leaning toward the 54 with 120mm stem and a spacer or two.

Thanks in advance!

Second try here. Did some layering the best with my limited colors and think I did a decent job with some dry brushing techniques. Re did my first model trying to paint the muscle and not just use a wash to get the different tones. Anyway. The journey continues!

Take care!
